MOREIRA, Joelmir Cabral. Administrative reorganization in Serro Frio district: Conflicts and social ascension of a judge in the service of the king, José Pinto de Morais Bacelar (1749-1779). 2018. Dissertation (Master in History) Institute of Human and Social Sciences, Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro, Seropédica, RJ, 2018.
This work aims to analyze aspects of the trajectory of José Pinto de Morais Bacelar in the legal-administrative career. More specifically, we aspire to understand Bacelar's action as an ombudsman in Serro Frio district, captaincy of Minas Gerais, during the period of the third diamond mining contract, highlighting its power relations, interactions and conflicts at a time of administrative reorganization in the district. Therefore, the idea was to analyze the strategies devised and the resources available for José Pinto de Morais Bacelar to be seen and remain as a "quality man" in the Old Regime society. We also aspire to understand the guiding value of his actions, in other words, what guided his search, as well as the benefits and gains that the career in the judiciary could provide, in the case of this study, translates into the services rendered to the Portuguese Crown.

ALCÂNTARA, Patrícia Costa de. The Conflicts of a Conflict: the judicial processes filed at the Conciliation and Judgment Boards of Belo Horizonte during World War II (1939-1945). 2018. Dissertation (Master Science in History, Power Relationships, Work and Cultural Practices). Instituto de Ciências Humanas e Sociais – Instituto Multidisciplinar, Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro, Seropédica, RJ, 2018.
This master thesis analyzes the judicial processes whose contents refer to the impacts of World War II, which were filed at the Conciliation and Judgment Boards of Belo Horizonte between 1939 and 1945, in order to identify the potential consequences of the conflict both in labor relations and in the relations established between the procedural parties and labor regulatory institutions. Aimed at solving individual claims, those processes express the political-social dynamics of the world of labor in its daily manifestations, reproducing the voices of workers, employers and the State, represented by its magistrates. These documents were read to examine how the war effort was reappropriated by employers and employees as an argumentative strategy in the sphere of struggle comprised by the field of Labor Justice. Given that discrimination against the Germans, Italians and Japanese acquired large proportions in the city during the war period and that the struggles enabled the formation of class consciousness, we analyze, through the labor conflicts, how nationalism and xenophobia were added to this process of construction in Brazil, insofar as they contributed to the rising of a new notion about the "Brazilian working class". Beside the lawsuits, laws, decrees and regulations elaborated as a result of the war were also investigated in order to point out its repercussions on labor lawsuits. News about the conflict and about the movements it aroused in the city were also selected from the Estado de Minas newspaper, national and international. Those newspapers were chosen as sources because they are easily accessible, and also because the newspapers in general, along with the radio, were one of the main information vehicles through which the Belo Horizonte population became aware of the events related to the world conflict. All sources were qualitatively approached and labor lawsuits were also examined qualitatively and serially. In this way, the laws, the lawsuits and the newspaper articles were read and interpreted meticulously, in order to extract much more than was apparently exposed in their texts. The serial approach was applied in the analysis of the lawsuits, because they are sources with some level of homogeneity, which allowed to quantify and serialize the information found and to present the regularities in the procedural steps that, in some way, evidenced transformations generated by World War II in labor relations in Belo Horizonte. From this research work we could conclude that even in a context in which nationalism, industrialization and regulation of conflicts between capital and labor were characteristic features of a State project, the workers were aware of the Decree-laws created as a result of the war and that, and used them, as well as the patriotic discourse, as strategies of argumentation in order to claim for their rights.

SILVA, Daniela Marques da. The Conservatie Political Work anda Profissionalization of the Army Corps of Officials: The Debate on the Law of Promotions of 1850. 2018. Dissertation (Masters in History). Instituto de Ciências Humanas e Sociais, Departamento de História e Relações Internacionais, Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro, Seropédica, RJ, 2018.
This dissertation is interested on the Army’s conservative politics in the moment of consolidation of the Imperial State, taking as object the law no. 585 of September, the sixth, 1850. The law determined, in broad terms, that the access to official posts would be gradual and successive, from lieutenants until marshal of the Army. The law of promotions has provoked changes in the organization of the Army official corps, since it has established minimum requirements of service time and instruction. The law is part of the political work undertaken by the conservatives during the decades of 1840 and 1850. The dissertation aims, besides identifying who were the deputies that have discussed the law in the Parliament, to analyze how the law appear in parliamentary speeches, in ministerial reports and in determined newspapers of the epoch. This dissertation will be composed of three chapter where it will be possible to address the Brazilian imperial politics, the law of promotions of 1850, the political actors involved in the debate about the law, the law projects that have been under discussion in the Deputies Chamber, and the law of promotions outside the Parliament.

This work has as a central goal to analyse the international relationship between Brazil Empire and United Provinces of River Plate in Cisplatine War (1825-1828) through correspondence between the foreign business ministers of these governments. Along this dissertation, countless questions arrive about diplomatic offices problematization: which are the main issues addressed? On what basis were the discourses of the foreign politic of Brazil and of the Provinces of the Silver on the region of the River Plate and mainly to the Banda Oriental? Which was the diplomatic schedule of each one of these newly independent governments? As we enter the study of the Cisplatine Question, we understand the roots of imperial diplomacy and the Provinces of the Plate, since it was the first conflict between them as independent countries. In addition, conflict research will help us to understand the beginning of each States formation process. When we are faced with a war between two neighboring states, it is inevitable to touch on border issues. Some diplomatic correspondence does justice to the border aspects, which are so fierce by these governments, even more so in a conflict. What was the concept of borders for these diplomatic ministers? Newly independent governments in the search for demarcation of their territories, needed the legitimation of these areas. The Cisplatine conflict strongly raised this debate. Some notes related to this aspect are discussed in our work. Therefore, we investigate and discuss the themes present in the correspondence and diplomatic offices, portraying thus the dynamics of conflict in the field of international relations and the developments of the war in their internal politics.

NEVES, Leandro César Santana. "Blessed art thou among the women of Rus": The hagiographic discourse on (Saint) Olga of Kiev (Rus ‒ XIth to XIIIth centuries). 2017. 174 p. Dissertation (Master's in History). Departamento de História, Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro, Nova Iguaçu, 2018.
In this dissertation, we aim to analyze the later image of Princess Olga († 969), who acted as regent of Kiev after the death of her husband, Igor, while he collected tribute and their son Sviatosláv, the natural successor, was still a minor. During her lifetime, Olga was responsible for a series of acts and measures that differentiated her from other rulers, with the most important decision being her conversion to Orthodox Christianity around the 950s. Many of these facts that are known about the princess are omitted, modified, or exaggerated in texts from the later centuries, indicating a manipulation of memory regarding Olga in order to transform her into a saint. Using the considerations on the "concept" of hagiographic discourse from authors like Anneke Mulder-Bakker, Guy Philippart, Marc van Uytfanghe, among others; and the methodology of the isotopic reading from Algirdas Greimas and Joseph Courtés, we argue that Olga's image has undergone transformations based on the authors' and the public's needs in two Rusian sources dealing with her, the Tale of Bygone Years (XIth-XIIth century) and the Encomium to Princess Olga (XIIIth century), wishing to create an "ideal Olga" that should be remembered and worshiped for the selected categories.

The purpose of this research is to analyze the religious writings of Friar Agostinho de Santa Maria on the reports of the lives of Eastern (Japanese and Cochin) women converted to Catholic Christianity during a mission in Japan and Cochinchina between the middle of the 16th century and the first half of the XVII. The disclosure of these lives was made by the author with the publication of two laudatory works of feminine spirituality which gave the name of Roses of Japam and Roses of Japam and Cochinchina. For the author, the importance of "giving news" of these lives was justified by the mission of providing the "Christian trolls of the kingdom" with the examples of the Eastern Christian devotees who were born among the thorns of "blind gentility" and "abominable idolatry" of strength in the face of tribulations, persecutions and martyrdom suffered during the persecution and banishment of Christianity in their respective "kingdoms." It is our intention to analyze the methodology applied by the author in the making of such works, as well as to identify which were, for Santa Maria, the social and religious conduct considered by the author as ideals to Christian behavior. It adds to this question the fact that the books of Augustine de Santa Maria not only highlight the religious sensibilities reinforced by the counterreformist Church, but also reveal a model of virtuous life for women in societies markedly misogynist and therefore we also seek to understand the religious discourses of virtue and moral valid in the Portuguese Seventy and transmitted by the author as guarantors of a perfect Christian life.

Study of the relationship between the resistance of the Donatist movement to the Nicenian project of universalizing Ecclesia and the strengthening of the primacy and authority of the ecclesia of Rome between the third and fifth centuries AD. From the fourth century, under the rule of the Emperor Constantine, Christian communities have their legal status changed from superstitio to religio licita, receiving validation as one more religion existing in the Empire and, gradually, reaching the level of its official religion. Such integration of Christians into the emperor's political project considers the level of acceptance and diffusion of Christian communities in the empire in various social strata and also the social welfare service provided by them, crediting them to the role of social aggregation of the unity project of the Roman Empire. However, for Christian communities to offer the desired cohesion to the diversity that composes the Empire, it is necessary for them to become a unified body, since the heterogeneous reality of their existence causes frequent disputes and rivalries, which would not be coherent with the policy adopted by Constantine and with his expectation placed on Christians. Within the Christian plurality, we find, among other communities, the Donatists and the Nicenians, among whom there is no room for negotiations around the unity. The Nicenians, an alignment of communities around the primacy of Rome that has a universalizing structure and ideal that identifies and places itself at the service of Constantine's project of unity, while also benefited and recognized as Catholics, desire the absorption of the Donatists in their universal Ecclesia, accusing them of schismatics and later of heretics. The Donatists, communities of Christians in North Africa that cherish the autonomy of their rites and beliefs, for which they claim the authority of the African Christian tradition, evoking names such as that of Bishop Cyprian of Carthage (mid-3rd century AD). Ecclesia whose concept of catholicity is linked to the integrity of their lineage, which goes back to the martyrs, and to the purity of their adherents, especially those who exercise ecclesiastical functions, and are not yet in favor of the empire-Ecclesia alliance. It is a period of construction of Christian identities, whose conflicts will be unbalanced by the political factor that represents the need for stability of the Roman Empire, which can not passively watch the ruin of the base of its unity, represented by the identities of the Christian communities, fighting, in partnership with the Nicenians, the dissonant elements of its project.

The present research treats about the theme of magic in Ancient Egypt, having as its aim passages of texts called as spells that use a threating tone addressed against Egyptian gods and goddesses. They consist into speeches where the practicer of magic claims that, if determined object given in the spell does not happen as it should, certain divinity is going to suffer attacks, the religious cult is going to be extinguish or the order of natural elements (with the sky abroad, the earth below and so on) is going to be unsettled, between other serious consequences to the Egyptian thought. Since we locate ourselves into the interpretative line that understands magic not as something contrary, but as an inner part of religion, these magical threats become a recurrent and legalized practice; but, at the same time, they challenge our understanding about the Ancient Egypt since they are against precepts of the proper Egyptian beliefs that theoretically should prevent then to be done. Thus, we focus on the period named as New Kingdom, an epoch of expansions and historical-religious developments, to analyse the threats existing in spells. Using both the Speech Analysis outline and part of the method given by the Content Analysis, we look to observe not only how the threats fit into ancient Egyptian beliefs, but also, and specially, how they can contribute to a better understanding of ancient Egyptian religion.

This thesis aims to analyze the policy of the National Bank for Economic and Social Development in support of the transnationalization of Brazilian companies (1990-2010). In this study we analyze mainly the evolution of the policies of foment of the bank to the Brazilian exportations. We will see that, although it has given considerable focus on the implementation of privatizations, it has gradually changed to policies aiming the international insertion of Brazilian and foreign companies operating in Brazil to other countries. The creation of the Financial Program for Exports of Machinery and implements (Finamex) in 1990 marks the beginning of this agency actuation in this process. After the second half of this decade, and especially from 1997 to onwards, with the inauguration of the exportation financial program, BNDES-Exim, the institution started to act even more prominently. Thus, by using a theoretical marxist-gramscian view, this study scrutinize the evolution of the disbursements of Finamex and BNDES Exim in order to map the companies, sectors, countries and regions benefited by these programs. We conclude that the actuation of the BNDES in this capitalist development strategy was marked by nuance. This represents more advancements and setbacks throughout the period than by ruptures or complete continuities.

This dissertation analyzes World Bank documentation, namely its World Development Reports (WDR’s) and sectoral publications, between 1979 and 2012, in order to understand how the institution handled the categories "woman" and "gender" in their broader approaches to development. The research emphasizes the conflicts surrounding strategies for women and/or gender relations and the interactions established between the Bank and women's organizations. The Bank's approaches to the subject, as documentary analysis has shown, have varied amid the tensions of contemporary capitalism and become limited in the face of economic crises and the intensification of class conflict in the world. In two moments (first at the 1970s and later in 1990s), the World Bank had to respond to growing social controversy about its performance in order to secure its position as a laboratory of capitalist development theories and practices. During this process, feminism became a broad-based movement and women's claims reached the status of a fundamental socio-economic issue. Amidst the World Bank's efforts to establish a framework for interpreting poverty and ways to diminish it, segments of feminism confronted international bureaucracies aiming the institutionalization of women's demands on the global development agenda. The first part of this research analyzes the approximation between the neoliberal agenda and feminist demands of specific sections, through the examination of class differences among working women, their dispersion in-between different political arenas and the co-optation and de-politicization of women-related matters. The following is a discussion about how feminist ideas were manipulate by financial agencies that consolidated public policies for women through dominant economic science’s assumptions. Next, is an analysis of how this process occurred in the World Bank, both in its internal functioning and structure, but mainly in the recommendations and publications on the subject since the 1970s. The World Development Report of 2012, the only one that address the theme "gender equality and development" was the last report analyzed. It was possible to conclude that it has instrumentalised women in two ways: (i) through the appropriation and resignification of certain feminist demands; (ii) as an alibi for low capitalist growth, at the claim of its low "productivity" throughout the process of capital accumulation

This research aims to discuss about feminine participation in rural workers movements in Pedra Lisa, Magé and Xerém – regions placed in Rio de Janeiro state – between 1948 and 1964. Land struggles had worsened political disputes before 1964. In Rio de Janeiro state, this fact also could be noted: various social movements had summarized this kind of request, among them should be highlighted, at first, Fluminense Peasants Association, Pedra Lisa’s Peasant and Trespassers Society and Magé’s Peasant Association, and after that Peasants Association Federation of Rio de Janeiro State prevailed in this scenario. In this regard, the present work tried to learn about the composition of those organizations through gender category. We analyzed biographies, interview, documentary, newspapers, magazines and political police documents to understand women actions inside those struggles. To do so, this dissertation has been built in three chapters which presented the line of thoughts that guided itself. This way, it’s going to be possible to observe the fact that there were women among those disputes and they acted for rural workers requests

In this dissertation we aspire to analyze the document Apocryphon of I Maccabeus, where it describes a series of events in history by the religious and political freedom of the Jewish people to the detriment of the Greek impositions, with Judas Macabeu and his family at the center of the main events of the insurgent revolts. Macabean identity is replete with symbolisms marked by the discourses of its past built by the patriarchs, the religious ideal and the myth that remained as a lively and legitimized discourse favored by religiosity. Their legitimation became a diffusing process of a symbolic construction, for they remained even with the Hellenic pressure, intact in their customs and religiosity. In this sense, we will use the concept of memory and identity in the intention of promoting an analysis of these singularities as a result of the archetypical Hellenic culture in Judea in the second century BC The mythological question and the building of heroism Macabeu appropriated the discourses of holiness in various communities Mediterranean in the first centuries of the Christian era, promoting the military, political and religious instability of Judea and in the provinces under the Seleucid aegis. With the intention of enriching the research, it was necessary to search in the sources of Flávio Josefo and the Book of Daniel elements in their speeches that corroborate with the insurgent events of the macabeus in the period proposed for investigation.

The present research has as general object the comprehension of the usages of the providentialist notion in Brazil’s literate context of the 19th century. The source of specific analysis consists on the studies of the canon and prime minister of the IHGB Joaquim Caetano FernandesPinheiro. The hypothesis of analysis is that in his scripts, the notion of divine providence worked not only as a narrative and explicative source for the construction of historical knowledge, but was also related to the wider argument of political justification of the monarchical government, on the second half of the 19th century. The main question that permeates the investigation is associated as hoe, in the studies of the canon, had been conciliated the usages of the providentialist explication and the demands for a “scientific” write of history during the period of the 19th century. The period of this investigation englobes the years from 1850 until the ending of the 1890 decade, which corresponds to the conjuncture of historiographic production of FernandesPinheiro.

This work analyzes the policy of exile (degredo) and the performance of the exileds (degredados) in Angola, in the 18th century. The degredados were structural in Angola, especially in what concerns the maintenance of the Portuguese presence. However, the action of these criminals exiled came from Portugal in the new colonial territory occurred in a different way in their social, political and economic relations established in Angola, since the degredados did not form a homogeneous group. Most of them were useful to the Portuguese monarchy and obtained social mobility.

o This work aims at analyzing the impact that the sinking of Brazilian ships during World War II caused in the region of Baixada Fluminense, having as its main source the weekly newspaper Correio da Lavoura. It is a local newspaper published in the municipality of Nova Iguaçu, that encompassed a vast territory in Baixada Fluminense (Fluminense Lowlands) and offered an important economic contribution to the Rio de Janeiro state and to the country as a whole through its production of citrus. The originality of the research resides in the focus in a region that, as opposed to the great state capitals, is not in constant evidence, something also reflected in the historical works on the impact of World War II in Brazil. As we demonstrate, the war produced reaction all over Brazil and the reality in Baixada Fluminense was not different. Phenomena engendered by the war context, such as scarcity, productive effort, popular reactions, retaliations against the “Axis Subjects” had their specific expressions in the region, as we analyze based on journalistic records. The press is approached in this work both from the analyzes of pieces published in the newspaper as historical documents and in what regards the understanding of Correio da Lavouraand its editors in local society. The theses also present a contextualization of the Nova Iguaçu municipality and its social, political and economic demands, through the lenses of the war impact in the region. In that way, we aim to contribute for the historiography on World War II in Brazil, including the Baixada Fluminense in the historical studies on the subject.

From publications and advertisements in the Folha do Norte and A Palavra journals from the city of Belém, Pará, and then analyzing the press as a historical source, this dissertation aims to present a study of the presented discourses in those journals from a perspective of gender relations. Thus, it intends to evidence the forms of expressions found in the journals that legitimized the gender hierarchical differences present within Belém society. Nonetheless, using gender as an analytical category, relevant discussions are motivated about the care and the issue of consumption in advertisements within the journals investigated between the 1940 and 1945 years.

This dissertation presents a study on the creation of the first Police force in Portuguese America in the context of the coming of the Royal family. The arrival of the Royal family caused a series of urban changes in the city and in the habits and customs in Rio of the Janeiro. With the status of City Court of the Portuguese monarchy also came the problems, in the most different spheres of public order and city administration, which needed to be solved. In order to solve them, D. João creates a specific organ in the city of Rio of the Janeir, in line with the needs of Portugal, able to meet the nascent needs: The General Police Oficce of the Court and the State of Brazil, which had the function to promote the reforms and to maintain order in the city, position occupied by the Police chief Paulo Fernandes Viana, whose function was to build a new Lisboa in Rio of the Janeiro. To assist him, the intendant had the Royal Police of the Court. We will analyze the creation of the Royal Police of the Court and its importance for the maintenance of order in the city of Rio of the Janeiro, its regulation, internal structure and recruitment. We will indentify the main groups of people arrested by the Police Department. We will also see the Police action in their specific functions of the streets, their behavior and their relationship with the main groups in the city.

In the year 1767, José Custódio Dias was born in the village of Nazaré - captaincy of Minas Gerais. He was legitimate son of the Portuguese captain Custódio José Dias and d. Ana Lopes da Silveira, born in same village. When young, José Custódio Dias left your homeland and went to study in São Paulo. The 24 years old ordered-if a priest in the Seminary of Mariana.
Born in an influential family of the southern region of Minas Gerais,Custódio Dias, as he was known, suited their priestly functions with the management of the family farm, the “Fazenda do Centro”. This property occupied prominent place in the center-south of Brazil for being great producer of cattle.
During his studies, the priest was marked by liberal principles, immensely widespread in the Western world from the mid-eighteenth century. He became an obstinate defender of constitutionalism, of political representation,of the division of powers that constituted the state and of individual rights. Thus, he was elected deputy, by Minas Gerais, to the Cortes de Lisboa (1821-1822).After proclaiming the independence of Brazil, the priest was elected deputy to the Constituent and Legislative General Assembly – reunited in the Chamber of Deputies and Chamber of Senators -, installed on May 3, 1823.In the Chamber of Deputies, the priest joined the first legislature (1826-1829), was elected to the second (1830-1833) and also to the third term (1834-1837).However, in October 1835, he was appointed senator by the regency government. On long career in imperial politics, analyze the trajectory of priest Custódio Dias in the Chamber of Deputiesoffers us the possibility to reflect and recompose - from the experiences of the character in the Parliament – the troubled political environment experienced in the empire during the First Reign and the early years of the Regency, the period of construction of the Brazilian imperial state.

The objective of this investigation is to analyze how the chronicler, Fernando de Alva Ixtlilxochitl (1578-1580), constructed the social and political power of his ancestors, the indigenous elites (the acolhuas of Texcoco), in order to protect their right sand privileges during the late 16th andearly 17th centuries in New Spain. We consider that the texts written by Ixtlilxochitl present the histories of the indigenous elites of Texcoco follow some models of European writing, as a chronology based on the Christian thoughts.
Scholars assert that Ixtlilxochitl describes members of the indigenous elites of Texcoco as having the most exceptional characteristics – according to the vision of European culture –in comparison with other local ethnic groups. In his writings, Ixtlilxochitl emphasizes the social and political power that these indigenous elites of Texcoco had in pre-Hispanic times especially.
Ixtlilxochitl high lights the social and political differentiations that existed between the indigenous elites and the common members of the “altepeme”. However, the traditional forms of social and political differentiation were under going changes in the historical context lived by the chronicler, when several administrative changes occurred in New Spain, for example, that would diminish the privileges of the indigenous elites, for allowing the common members of society to have access to positions and privileges that were once occupied only by such elites.
There fore, the texts developed by Ixtlilxochitl narrate the trajectory of the indigenous elites of Texcoco and preserve fundamental information for the proofand protection of the rights that the indigenous elites had held since the pre-Columbian era, as in the case of the Ixtlilxochitl family it self, which had privileges dueto accessto the position of “San Juan Teotihuacan Cacicazgo

FIGUEIREDO, Joyce Cristina Machado. “THE GOODS AND HEIRS OF DONA ANNA ROSA ROBERTA DE VASCONCELLOS (ITAGUAÍ, 1830-1865)”. 2018. 105 f. Dissertation (Master in history) – Instituto de Ciências Humanas e Sociais. Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro.
The present dissertation has as conducting line Dona Anna Rosa Roberta de Vasconcellos, slaves’ owner in the Vila of São Francisco Xavier, who at the moment of death on May 24th 1848 leaves expressed not only the evaluation of her goods, but also the list of heirs, as well as creditor. Our goal is to investigate the “web’ of relationships twisted by this Dona. By doing this, we pint that the Vila was composed by three freguesias: São Francisco Xavier de Itaguaí (actual Itaguaí); Nossa Senhora da Conceição do Bananal (actual Seropédica, which makes frontier with Marapicú, belonging to Nova Iguaçu); and São Pedro e São Paulo do Ribeirão das Lajes (actual Paracambi), and, until 1883, when Nossa Senhora da Guia de Mangaratiba is elevated to a Vila, integrated the lands of Itaguaí. Besides, we still intend to contextualize actors and works used, in order to elucidate the history of Itaguai. Besides identifying others farmer women in the region, for what we can think about this feminine actuation in the agricultural region, since our character is a woman. To do so, we have tried to read researches done from this usage. Initially, we present the contexts from the Post-Mortem inventory of Dona Anna Rosa, we still intend to identify what the legislation pondered about these women, while heirs or bequeathing their goods to third ones. This will be a background in order to better understand the source we study, being able to reflect the circumstances in which those goods could be shared, and those who could receive them. In this sense, we verify how were the slaves of our owner, highlighting their ages, genders, values and places of origin. Later, we present the families listed as heirs, looking to note if there would be or not differentiation in the goods’ transmission. Finally, we consider as beneficial that we look around the conflict involving the tutelage of the “natural children”, the minors Maria and Manoel, orphans of João Luiz de Sá Freire, a son of Dona Anna Rosa, since the brothers of the deceased, João Joaquim de Sá Freire and José Tribúrcio de Sá Freire, do petitions for turning into tutors of the “named minors” (“ditos menores”).

The media are not simply transmitters of information no ractas neutral mediators in the public debate. News papers actively participate in structuring the publics phereand have a great power to institute the public agenda. This work tries to show the strategies of the news paper O Globo in the construction of the "culture of fear" and "warmetaphor", that impelled the implementation of repressive, prejudice dand bellicose policies of policeaction. Base donthe quantitative and qualitative analysis of the first page reports related to public security in Rio de Janeiro between 1994 and 1995, we sought to show that the news paperO Globo, through its discursive resources, influenced the hardening of policeactions, especially in relation to the poorestsections of society, Culminating in the militarization of public security through Operations RIO I and II and the political weakening of Leonel Brizola and his ideals of guaranteeing human right sandof a police action focuse don the defense of the citizen. We search to reveal the hegemonies present in the wayO Globohascut, classified and hierarchized reality. Regarding ideological aspects, we sought to make explicit that the news paper tended to reinforce the diffusion of fear, especially when such a sensation could beused to guarantee its ideological, economic and political interests, even though the journal it self was defined as a vehicle of critical communication, non-partisan, and independent of government so reconomic groups. The figures of language that reinforce these ideologicalelement sand structure the interpretative model present in the news papers point towhatwe understand to be the production of a culture of fear and the metaphor of war. The plurality of interpretations of the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth was a reality in early 2nd century CE.
Several were oral and written discourses circulating between the Christian communities. This issue demonstrates
not only the different intellectual forces which, in the midst of the followers of the Way, spread their views on
this belief. This factor denounces the presence of interpretative divergences and the need to control these new
voices that come to stand out between the paleocristan communities. In an attempt to build a collective identity based not on Jesus but on Jesus as interpreted by episcopal forces,
eaders gain prestige amid the power relations present in the religious field. In this sense, there are discursive
efforts, such as that of Bishop Irenaeus of Lyons in the region of Gaul, to record and refute the interpretive
diversity on the Nazarene in his work Adversus Haereses, written between 180-185 CE. Being this ancient
writing observed as literature, will be verified the use of a performance speech, according to the conceptual
analysis of performance developed by Paul Zumthor. With a perception focused on transdisciplinarity, which
emphasizes the relations of discontinuity, complexity of the theme and alterity, the tension of these various

the legitimacy of the discourse of his political group, which is treated as the sole holder of the true
understanding of the christian experience. Thus, not only what was written by the leaders, but also what

SANTOS-SILVA, Danielle Oliveira. These Great Qeens: Journeys of Power on Medieval Royalty Portuguese Court (From twelfth to fifteen century) – A Queenship study. 2008.174 p.Thesis (Doctoreddegree in History). Instituto de Ciências Humanas e Sociais. Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro, Seropédica, RJ, 2008.
This thesis intend to analyze, within the assesment established by the concept of Queenship power possibilities of the Portuguese queens in the medieval period, which comprises the 12th and 15th centuries. Within this space-time period, the biographies of seven Portuguese queens were studied, in an attempt to establish how much power ‘her highness’ managed on her own individual accomplishments. The social and economic importance of the queen's family of origin is a relevant criteria to consider how she would be received in the kingdom for which she would later marry. The more important the family, the more valuable would be the alliance achieved. This alliance could be used by the queen as a way of negotiating her power attributes. Achieving the role of perpetuator of the dynasty, succeeding in the maternal function was another assesment of unique relevance, which could secure the position of the queen. Gaining access to political power through the role as Queen-Mother. Through pious gestures, the queen encountered other opportunities for power by establishing relationships with the high clergy of the medieval Catholic Church. In the court setting, the Queen could, through donations, feasts, and patronage, favor and please bishops, abbots and cardinals, who would strengthen her position and support her political ambitions, while making virtually impossible any expectation the king had to replace her. In this view the papacy became a great ally of the medieval queens, and their relations with the prelates ensured that they guarantee power and good fame among the population. As Queenship's last assesment, there are questions about intercession, the power the queen possessed from the physical and emotional closeness she established with the king, her husband. This set of assesment, balanced and combined in different ways, underlines the framework that will provide the Queen´s power. Personality, natal culture, individual wealth were other criteria that could alter the sensitive relations of power in the medieval Portuguese court.

This work aims to analyze anarchist political practices during the period between the Cuban Revolution and the military dictatorships in Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. In the present study, we intend to analyze the transformations in the strategic and political debates of the anarchist organizations of these countries, as well as to elucidate the influence of the Cuban Revolution and the armed struggle within anarchism. Using a variety of documentary sources (letters, interviews, newspapers, pamphlets and minutes of meetings) and a broad historiographical debate, we seek to elucidate the transformations in their political culture, practices with unions, students and popular movements. We intend to understand the common factors that affected anarchism in the three countries and the singular factors, as well as to understand comparatively the relations, strategic positions and transnational debates among the anarchist organizations. From an analysis based on Political History and Social History and from different methodological procedures, we try to map the anarchist political field and the result of its adherence to what we call “guerrilla grammar” and Latin Americanism.

This study aims to contribute to the debates on the process of constructing and exercising citizenship in the First Republic of Brazil, through an analysis of the relationship between Rio de Janeiro's population and the State, as well as an examination of the ways the population of Rio de Janeiro in the 1920s manifested and contested their acquired rights. It proposes to analyze the exercise of citizenship within the exclusionary political model of the time, considering how even when faced with this reality, they found ways to claim their rights, observed in practices of demanding them from the State. The Judiciary is taken as an example in this sense and serves as the focus of the analysis. The study works with habeas corpus cases originating from the Federal Supreme Court, located in the Federal Supreme Court File in Brasília and in the National Archive in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Throughout the First Republic, habeas corpus was considered "t he great remedy" for the problems citizens faced, since it was the only legal instrument that protected individual freedom at that time. These cases allow us to glimpse citizens demanding rights from the Judiciary, demonstrating that they considered it to be a space in which they could recover what they considered their rights. Our central hypothesis is that the Judiciary was seen by sectors of society as a defense area of what they considered citizenship rights, but in practice, in the examination of the institute of habeas corpus, the Federal Supreme Court of Brazil was not an instance that contributed to the guarantee of such rights, since the Federal Supreme Court of Brazil had a modus operandi which made it difficult to grant applications for habeas corpus.

With the objective of analyzing the daily and agencies of domestic servants, national and European immigrants, selves in their experiences in relation to the world of work, we seek to analyze this activity in an important moment - end of slavery, massive entry of immigrants in Rio territory and consolidation of liberal thinking and capitalism. Starting from this scenario, we will analyze how such labor relations are the result of a set of changes occurred in a process that has been drawing since the second half of the nineteenth century, not just results of the end of slavery. Thus, the experiences of Brazilian and foreign women, men and minors will be analyzed from a set of documentation, which will allow us to observe the main forms of income of these characters in the domestic service in Rio de Janeiro, as well as the male participation in a scenario dominated by the female presence. In addition, child labor has a prominent role in presenting a labor market in which the labor force plays an important role, most importantly, in the ideological construction of a so-called "domination" of the "household". Finally, it should be noticed that at a time when the working class is the constant target of public policies for its control and ordering, the criminalization of such activity will become an important tool. That despite the efforts of coercion, it did not fail to face constant reactions and resistance from women, men, children, domestic and foreign, who struggled daily for better working and living conditions.

The main object of the present work was the aulic of the First Reign (1822-1821), his ideas and his political project spread, especially in the press of Rio de Janeiro and in the first two legislatures in the Chamber of Deputies and in the Senate. The aulic constituted the representatives that gravitated around the emperor Pedro I, seeking to give sustenance and visibility to his government before the public opinion. The work went through the formation of the group during the discussions of the Constituent Assembly of 1823, until its demise with the Abdication of d. Pedro I. The work elaborated a collective biography analysis of the writers and the aulic parliamentarians. The selection of these men occurred through the analysis of several political newspapers in Rio de Janeiro and the speeches given in the Chambers of the Legislative Branch. The main goals of the groups were to defend against the attacks perpetrated by the opposition and the affirmation of their political postulates, whose basic ideas were the maintenance of public order, the presence of a Constitutional Monarchy with strong centralizing power and the defense of the legitimate sovereignty of d . Pedro I who lived with other powers, but was above them. In the coexistence between modern Constitutionalist ideas and the strong precepts of the Old Regime, the political political project was forged. Under these perspectives between the new and the old, the continuities and discontinuities of political practices, we sought the guiding thread the aulic.

With this thesis I present, problematize and interrogate historical modes of production of trans subjectivities in the city of Campos dos Goytacazes / RJ, between the years of 1990 and 2017. I understand that the experiences form subjects and subjectivities, so I highlight the historical mechanisms, strategies and possibilities of self-determination and self-definition, the ways in which the subjects name themselves and give meaning to the lived, mobilizing historical notions, such as transvestite, transsexual, transgender, trans and woman. I focus on trans experiences produced in the interface with the historical formations of femininities. Verticalize the analysis on the strategies, negotiations and reifications that conform these experiences, underlining the ways of tensioningthe heteronormative cystem. The transgender narratives allowed us to glimpse how ways of life were forged, how escape routes were produced, as well as mechanisms of resistance to cisheteronormative power. Dialoging and being inspired by the literature on friendship relations, I sought to favor an approach that emphasized these relationships in trans experiences. The webs of friendship are understood as an affective tissue, but equally as relations of disputes and conflicts. In these relationships, important components have appeared that materialize the trans experiences and allow, incite and make viable historical forms of self-creation. Therefore, self-assembling is an expression and meaning attributed by the trans universe, used to refer to the process of self-determination and self-expression, to bodily interventions, to the practice of using and "assuming" clothing and accessories considered feminine, and mainly, points to the possibility of mapping, research and historicize the ways in which the subjects are produced, such as the body, and the relations of friendship and with the family are constituted from certain conditions of possibilities.

The proposal was to historicize a debate in which it was proposed to think about how a historian, who reflects from the present, constitutes another way of thinking about the past. The selected debate begins with the publication of the book Discipline and punish: the birth of the prison (“Surveiller et punir: naissance de la prison”), published in 1975 by Michel Foucault. This text had a critical review by the historian, also french, Jacques Léonard called L’historien et le philosophe - A propos de: Surveiller et punir: naissance de la prison. The review was answered in a text called The dust and the cloud (La poussière et le nuage), written by Michel Foucault and was unfolded in a meeting between them and some more historians in a round table of May 20, 1978 (Table ronde du 20 mai 1978).The research was divided into three chapters, in the first was addressed the two texts that began the debate in an attempt to resume their arguments and understand with them were being conducted in perspectives that can be associated with a broader debate. Then relations were made with other debates that were taking place in France and a relation with the theoretical traditions with which the two thinkers can be associated. In the second chapter, a survey was made about Jacques Léonard, trying to locate his researches in the scene of the history of French medicine and its assumptions. Just as the theoretical positions that marked the way Foucault deal with history, especially with regard to genealogies. Genealogies were historicized as tactics employed by Foucault in dealing with history and thought of in the plural, attempted to account for the diversity of approaches they engender. In this sense, it was necessary to resume the discussions in several writings, lectures, conferences and classes, at the time of writing the book Discipline and punish. The third chapter focused on the book, as the research sought to see how Foucault's successive theoretical shifts were rearranging until they arrived in the book itself. The idea was to try to perceive the writings in movement and not to establish in them an exegetical truth, to next address the arguments contained in Discipline and punish. The arguments presented in the book were mapped to relate them to the debate that unfolded in the texts of Léonard and Foucault. The last part of the text was dedicated to Table ronde du 20 mai 1978, the concern was to perceive between the participants, their respective positions in relation to the history and how at that moment the discussion ceased to be about the book of Foucault and happened to be about the historical knowledge. The research turned to the considerations raised in the debates, especially in what, somehow, seemed to be more uncomfortable to the debaters when problematizing or historicizing. Two positions in particular: the way Foucault thinks about his methods, especially with regard to the approach to genealogies; and how he deals with the notion of happening and the implications of this in his way of write history.

The present research is concerned with the establishment of a slave society in a village located in the district of Rio
dos Mortes do Sul, Minas Gerais, in a period extending between 1830 and 1888. The spatial coverage of this work
circumscribes the Vila de Santa Maria do Baependi, a locality dedicated to the production of agricultural and
livestock genera that supplied several markets in the center-south of Brazil. The main objective is to ascertain
how socioeconomic inequality, the spread of slave ownership and the relations of paternalism and paternalism
between lords and captives were essential for the maintenance of slavery. To this end, a series of sources were
explored, such as postmortem inventories, parish baptismal registers, wills, nominative lists of the term of
Baependi, reports of the President of Minas Gerais, and the industrial and administrative almanacs of Minas
Gerais produced in the second half of the eight hundred. In this reality, the concentration of wealth, the acquisition
of captives by different local families, and the hierarchy in the interior of captivity were fundamental for the
re-establishment of a slave society deeply marked by exclusion and inequality. In the same way, it was observed
in conjunction with these mechanisms that the parental links between the members of the large house and the
individuals bound to captivity were essential traits for the conservation of seigniorial status.

ROCHEDO, Aline do Carmo. “Aphrodite if you want”: the role women in Brazilian rock in the 1980s. 2018. 299 p Tese de Doutorado. (Doutorado em História, Relações de Poder, Linguagens e História Intelectual). Instituto de Ciências Humanas e Sociais - Instituto Multidisciplinar, Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro, Seropédica, RJ, 2018.
Rock, as an object of study has been the subject of research in human sciences’ area precisely, since the 1980s. In those researches and publications, the leadership role are predominantly attributed to male. Whereas females are poorly represented and rarely appears as prominent player or leaders. In the process of consolidating "Rock and Roll," although women's talents had the same qualities as men, they hardly achieved the same status. The mainly protagonist and leadership are placed on male singers and composers. They usually, accentuated their dominant male figure on the artistic circle. This doctoral thesis entitled Aphrodite if you Want: The protagonist role of women in Brazilian rock in the 1980s propose to situate the reader through historical epistemological support, the incursion of women’s work in the artistic scenery of Rock Holl, which still are a space c reated and hold by men. It discusses the protagonist role of women in Brazilian rock, highlighting their experiences and problematizing how their "voice" alter the hierarchy shaped by male’s perspective over how rock history had been constructed. Under invisibility, females had created their character role, insistently through action of belonging to sphere of rock, spite difficulties imposed by their males counterpart. These character can be understood as overthrow the male figure, conquest of space and speak their voice. Therefore, making their mark in musical art to communicate with the world, sphere once restricted to male. Throughout their voice, one can see that the role played by women in the space of rock, usually refers, simply to their physical presence in this setting. This study attempt to legitimized those voices as they are linked to Rock and Holl history, consolidating and recognizing these environment as having a space for all. The statements g iven by Brazilian artists are essential to understand women as rocker, as well as their political role in the society. It also, addresses the topic of the importance of composing the lyrics of songs. As an element of analysis, women were interviewed about their involvement in Rock and Holl’s movement and the artistic production of rock songs. Their remarks clearly notice their contribution, even though rock memory are view as male history. these musical genre demand good musician performance, especially guitar players, which in general are reserved for men in the history they wrote themselves. Inversely, in this thesis several women wrote the story.

The purpose of this study is, through analysis and research, to respond to the following Research Problem: How the state of Rio de Janeiro faces, through the DEAM-Oeste, the violence suffered by women who resort to this organ with the intent solve their demands. The research aims to verify how the state contends, through the DEAMs as a public policy, the violence suffered by women. The time cut used here was the period from 2006 to 2016, since this time allows establishing a historical milestone regarding the emergence of Law 11.340/06 (Maria da Penha Law) that came to determine the crimes committed against women and their respective sanctions. To adopt the West Zone as a space cut, here, it is justified by it to house a significant amount of communities and prisons of maximum security; because about 1.5 million people live in the region; composed of 40 neighborhoods, not to mention that it is an area of great circulation of people, so full of customs, negotiations and cultural conflicts. for being an area of transition to the wealth and luxury of the Barra da Tijuca and Recreio dos Bandeirantes condominiums, which even dictate the status quo to the other neighborhoods that make up the region. Imported cars, hectic social life, clothing and brand products, services etc. all this makes the West Zone a multiple place, because it makes it possible to divide the region into several fields of observation. The methodology adopted in this research consisted basically of bibliographic research, documentary and field research. The first ones were carried out during the doctorate; on the second, it is worth noting that for the collection of these data, I attended the DEAM-Oeste for almost two and a half years (concomitantly with the doctorate, from February 2014 to July 2016). The ethnographic work carried out here consisted of a set of procedures whose scope was to account for the description, inscription and transcription of the experiences lived at the DEAM-Oeste, through my direct participation, as an observer, in that environment that was intended to be known. The choice to do a doctorate in history to discuss violence against women, connected to the DEAM-Oeste and law 11.340 / 06, was justified, for the following reasons: firstly, the social relevance of the theme; second, by the gain in the political field, since this investigation produced knowledge about the DEAM, as a public policy made by the state of Rio de Janeiro in the face of violence against women; Third, the research has brought benefits to the epistemological field (in general, since it has provided empirical data on the structure and functioning of the DEAM-West, in addition to deepening the reflections on concepts such as “violence”, “gender”, “feminism” and “Relations of power”, specifically for history, this research was useful, as it historicized the DEAM-West and the applicability of the Maria da Penha Law and the violence against women. In the course of this investigation, dialogue with other areas of knowledge , such as anthropology, sociology, psychology, medicine, law, social service, among others.

The analysis of the senses attributed to violence against women in the 1980s and 1990s occurs through two sets of sources: the TV series Women's Police Station, broadcasted by Rede Globo de Televisão in 1990, and the newspaper articles from O Globo at the time of implementation of DEAM / RJ, 1985 and 1986. Based on them, I seek to historicize how the episodes of this series built meanings to the behaviors considered violent and non-violent, covering here the physical and psychological violence, related to women. Regarding the press, I have investigated how the newspaper took care of the need to implement DEAM / RJ. More than an advance in the defense and the search for conditions of social equality for women, they reveal, the newspaper and the Tv series, to be another instrument to reinforce the female vulnerability conditions. I present the analyzes of the episodes of the TV series that desktop with physical violence, as the main focus on the contents of the dialogues presented by the characters, articulating with the bibliography about the theme.

This the sishas analized the Urban Descriptions made in Lisbon and Madrid in the XVI and XVII centuries unde rthe New Political History perspectives. This text format was most expressive during the period in which those cities did not have the Royal presence: Lisbon, dueto it’s incorporation by the Hispanic Monarchy (1580-1640); and Madrid, when King Philip III moved to Valladolid (1601-1606). The author soft hose texts used the formatto lament there galab sence, and also did so to elaborate on reasons to convince the monarchs to choose the respective cities as the definitive headquarters for the royalcourt, and for the capital. The objective of the thesisisto better understand how those authors represented the roles of those cities in the times in which they ceased being the regal courtand bureaucratic center. Also, how they participated in the formation of anurbanidentityand in the process of selecting the capital. This process revealedit self unusual in the iberic cities because the period in which the monarch was absent would have been essential if they were to be recognized as capital. This was used to rethink the relation ship that was built between the king and the capital. It is hoped by this the sistostimulate historians to seek a common history of Portugal and Spain, less ening the focus given by historiography in separating the iberic countries.

The constitutional pact: the political dynamics between Corte and provinces in the Empire of Brazil (1823-1834).
The central object of this work is the relationship between central power and local powers in the Brazilian Empire between 1823 and 1834, thinking about the actions of local authorities and the Court, hereby understood as the central power. We sought to unravel this relationship in different regions, provinces with greater and lesser expression, observing the role of local potentates as to the pretentious subordination they owed to the Court of Rio de Janeiro, established by the 1824 Constitution. To do so, we analyzed the documents of the governments of Pará, Goiás, Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Sul, the actions of the presidents who governed those provinces, as well as the reflections of their administrations in the press. We started from the date of creation of the post of provincial president and of the General Council by the decree of October 20, 1823, which was corroborated by the Constitution, confirming the nomination of the presidents of provinces by the emperor, and the Additional Act of 1834, which altered the Constitution, creating Provincial Legislative Assemblies in place of the Provincial Councils, allowing the establishment of provincial and municipal expenses locally. The hypothesis behind this analysis is that the provincial presidents played a fundamental mediating role between the interests of the central power and the other provinces. This hypothesis implied to verify if the action of the provincial presidents was the same in the different locations. The profound changes undergone by Brazilian society in the years following Independence and the efforts of the elites to form a national political project, they give us room to think about the problem of state organization as a whole, aiming at not only the central government or the provinces separately, but both as stakeholders and the way they interrelated.

Eloy Anthero Dias, or Mano Eloy, was very famous on places where he circulated in Rio de Janeiro city. He was a dock worker, leader of the union labor called Resistance Society, Macumbeiro, respected member among Jongo and Samba groups (black culture performances). Mano Eloy was one of the black characters, who moved from the Paraíba valley to Rio de Janeiro, becoming known and respected by his contemporaries. The study of its trajectory, as well as of many other black men and women, are ways to broaden and understand the multiplicities of black experiences in the agency of their daily contingencies, in view of the social panorama that was unraveling with the post-abolition.

This work deals with the social and political trajectory of the Communist Party of Brazil-Ala Vermelha (PCdoB-AV), which emerged in 1967 from a split in the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB). The group was organized around experienced militants, some graduates of the Leagues Peasants and with passages by China and the old Soviet Union. Most of the staff, however, were young, mostly from the student media. With regard to theoretical formulations, the organization was affiliated to Maoism and aimed at implanting the rural guerrilla in the country through the model of prolonged popular war, which merged elements of the foquismo. As soon as it emerged, the group launched into armed actions, especially actions of expropriation of values and revolutionary propaganda. At that stage, the party concentrated its work and activities in São Paulo. In 1969, it became hard hit by the agents of repression, which helped pioneer self-criticism in relation to the tactic of armed struggle in Brazil. Dismantled in the early 1970s, it reorganized itself in Rio de Janeiro and sought to put into practice alternatives to get closer to the working poor and urban poor, who hoped to politicize and organize for political struggles. In order to do so, it has strategized, such as the insertion of militants in factories and peripheries, support for workers' mobilizations, participation in neighborhood movements and the creation of alternative newspapers. In 1979, militancy was engaged in the movement for the founding of the Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT). Affiliated to the legend, some militants insisted on a behavior close to that of clandestine organization. Between 1981 and 1984, the majority abandoned this position and went on to serve individually in the PT. In 1985, the few who resisted as an organization joined with remnants of other revolutionary groups, originating the current PT Revolutionary Communist Movement (MCR).
