  • The present study explores the relationship between material cultural heritage and the construction and perpetuation of the political memory of the city of Volta Redonda, focusing on the analysis of the Memorial 9 de Novembro designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer. Monuments are erected by representatives of the public power, endowing them with official legitimacies. The problematics surrounding these representations—specifically the memorial in question—revolve around questioning who legitimizes heritage and how the municipality presents and represents its political history, highlighting the 1988 Strike at the National Steel Company (CSN) and the labor movement. The research aims to reflect on Volta Redonda's connection to its union worker memory through cultural heritage and the conflicts surrounding it. The methodology employed in this research is based on a documentary and bibliographic approach, involving the review and analysis of a wide range of relevant materials such as books, academic articles, and specialized publications. This bibliographic review enables comprehensive information retrieval and theoretical grounding for the study. Furthermore, relevant heritage concepts discussed in the work were explored. During field research, photographic records were made, playing an important role in visually documenting elements of interest related to the studied cultural heritage. Authors such as Paul Ricouer (2007), Pierre Nora (1993), and Françoise Choay (2000) were consulted and contributed theoretically to the research. This dissertation addresses the right to memory and its relation to the recognition of heritage not linked to the dominant social class. This justifies the contemporary need to discuss the political, aesthetic, and memory connections involved in the preservation and destruction of cultural heritage. The research aims to understand the breadth and diversity of the relationships established between memory, the city, and heritage, and how they are related to the process of affirmation and recognition of the social identity of certain groups through memory from the perspective of cultural manifestations. Here, we consider the relationship between the past and the present and how the present can embody itself in certain places and/or objects as monumental memory, laden with meanings, thanks to experiences marked by spatial and social changes, intertwined with intrinsic and almost silent discourses on power. Thus, the analysis of the Memorial 9 de Novembro allows for a deeper reflection on the narrative of heritage construction and how they are presented and preserved, especially regarding the struggle of workers in the Southern Fluminense region.

  • The social memory of the city of Volta Redonda comes from a project. In the countryside, over pastures and orange groves, parameterized by a large steel company, the urban layout that gave shape to it emerged. The urbanization promoted by the State and its first and main equipment constitute a separate cultural context in the region, completely different from the coffee towns, which originated in the 13th and 19th centuries, which make up the territory. Naturally, the urban and original architectures foreseen in the Plan constitute the seed of memory. From this set, some built examples and the original urban layout remain, both of which are often unnoticed, poorly appropriated and altered by new uses or more extensive uses.
The space of time defined for this analysis, as a very specific reference to the genesis of the city, coincides with the time when Getúlio Vargas was in power – with a brief interruption during the government of Eurico Gaspar Dutra, while the developmental project implemented it remained, with emphasis on the Estado Novo cycle, authoritarian and nationalist (between 30 and 45) and its return (between 50 and 54) paternal and populist.
In Brazil, a developing territory, the repertoire of these singular architectures, refer to a moment between the modernity fed by the national tradition and the modeling of the international modernism, in which, abandoning the colonial tradition, they do not obey any recipe, suggesting a conciliation of new experiences, which do not find repercussions in historical cycles and after, a second moment, the gradual adoption of non-ornamentation and rationality, characteristics of modernism.

  • The collective experience experienced by Candomblé as a sociocultural practice has always been one of the most emblematic issues in the struggle of practitioners of these religiosities, in terms of legitimacy and freedom to exist as a social right. In Brazil, the enslavement of Africans brought with it very specific particularities when we delve into the issue of diversity as a point of view, which is reflected in numerous demands, including historically mediated ones. Brazilian culture is made up of gaps and erasures that hide the African and Afro-descendant experience in the history of Brazil, and that still resist in the collective memory of the African Matrix house’s religion. In this barn of events and resignifications, we join the context of the Baixada Fluminense territory, equally diverse, wide, surrounded by conflicts that cross the cultural history of the social formation of this country, since these histories are repeated in neighborhoods and peripheries throughout Brazil, these they also contain stories about Candomblé as a collective experience and the maintenance of practices by Afro-descendant populations. In this way, memory, history and identity are part of a legacy where heritage, culture and society meet to discuss ways of existing and reaffirm human values rebuilt with religiosity as a centrality.

  • This dissertation research intends to carry out a qualitative analysis regarding the preservation of the Afro-Brazilian cultural heritage, represented in this work by the daily notebooks of the Minas Gerais author Carolina Maria de Jesus – subject of this research – in museum institutions, here evidenced by the Museum Afro Brasil – object of this research – located in the city of São Paulo. The analysis will be dedicated to understanding how the literary heritage of Carolina Maria de Jesus, materialized in her diaries and reconstituted through her individual and collective memories, even if fragmented, can constitute a cultural reference of the black heritage. The research took place through readings and interpretations of theories that conceptualize the category of individual and collective memory, as well as its importance in the construction of a national identity. Attention is also paid to the attributions of museums in this construction and their importance in representing the culture, traditions, arts and religiosity of black and Afro-descendant populations belonging to the Brazilian territory.

  • The main objective of this dissertation is to critically evaluate the cultural significance, the appropriation by the local population and the public conservation of the structural, decorative and plant elements that make up the garden of Barão de Campo Belo Square (1835-1857), an integral part of the Urban Landscape of the City of Vassouras/RJ, a cultural asset protected by federal heritage since 1957. The landscape of the historic center of Vassouras has undergone several interventions over time. With this, it is possible to perceive that there is a lack of recognition of the importance of the landscape composition of the historic gardens of Vassouras, generating a gap in the treatment of its conservation, which has as a consequence the insufficiency of criteria and guidelines for its management and management. that can compromise the integrity and authenticity of the entire cultural landscape of the set. The proposed methodology was established in four stages. The first is dedicated to a review of the literature on the conservation of historic gardens, through the main national and international documents and the production of authors related to the theme that address the conservation of these spaces. In the second stage, we tried to understand, through bibliographical, iconographic and documentary research, the transformation processes of the Barão de Campo Belo Square over time, identifying the projects, plans, past interventions and political contexts that determined the conservation of the area of study, which will allow to identify the losses, additions and transformations suffered by the space. In the third stage, a critical analysis of the successive municipal legislations related to the square in question is proposed, as well as the attitude of the municipal management towards the need for conservation of the listed Vassouras complex, which includes the square. Finally, the stated concepts will serve as a basis for establishing criteria for future conservation interventions focused on the object studied.

  • The purpose of this investigation is to identify the origin, periodization, construction materials, social, stylistic and iconographic characteristics, based on scientific and laboratory research on the sculptures of King David and one of his queen consorts, Bathsheba. We seek to understand the historiography of the imaginary in the Church of Our Lady of the Pilar, located today in the neighborhood of Pilar, in the municipality of Duque de Caxias (RJ), thus seeking to highlight its historical importance and from a heritage perspective. Our investigation is of a qualitative and quantitative documentary, scientific, bibliographical and iconographic nature. Through the methodology of the proposed methodology, we launched the research and approach of the documents available in the archives of the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN), the National Library (BN), the Diocese of Duque de Caxias and the Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro. We support our research in Araujo (1820), Bazin (1983), Maravall (1997), Nigra (1943), Lorêdo (2002), Oliveira (2014), Coelho & Quites (2014), Panofsky (1976), Rèau (1998) and Pizarro (2008). In order to analyze the historicity of the municipality of Duque de Caxias, which is the current scenario of our object of study, we used bibliographic references from local authors, such as Almeida (2014), Braz & Almeida (2010) and Souza (2014). We started the analysis of the iconographic elements as sources for cataloging the imagery and integrated goods that belonged to the Church of Our Lady of the Pilar and that are currently part of the collection of the Diocese of Duque de Caxias. In addition, we will see, analyze, bring photographs produced between the year 1910 and the present day and are available in the collections of BN, IPHAN and the Diocese of Duque de Caxias. We believe it will be useful to bring them together so that we can reflect on the characteristics, styles, times and periods of the church’s imagination. The research proposes to describe the integrated goods and the imaginary through methods linked to the historiography itself, based on the iconography itself and the scientific analysis carried out on the altarpiece sculptures of King David and Queen Bathsheba. With this, we seek to identify the similarities and differences, in order to understand the information contained therein, such as the time of production of the work in question, in order to understand how the presence of colonial sacred art occurred in the territory that today comprises the municipality of Duque de Caxias (RJ). Finally, we will emphasize the importance of rescuing memory and preserving the historical and cultural heritage of the municipality of Duque de Caxias.

  • This study presents the processes of (re)construction of railway memory in the city of Valença, Rio de Janeiro. From the 19th century until the 1970s, several companies operated railroads that ran through the entire city. Based on the notion of memory place, we proposed to analyze the processes of memory reconstruction in spaces such as the Railroad Museum, the Associação União Valenciana para Preservação Ferroviária (UVAFER) and the of Former Students of the Mário de Castilhos Professional School. For the construction of this research, we seek a methodology that handles the work with two distinct types of document sources. Regarding the Railroad Museum of Valença, the collection formed by Sebastião Victor throughout his life will be analyzed, including the museum itself as a historic document. To analyze the motivations that culminated in the return of three train wagon that were manufactured in the city in 2018, we started a research approaching Oral History, seeking to interview UVAFER directors as well as a group of former students from Escola Profissional Mário de Castilhos. It should be noted that the collection and analysis of these discourses also contributes to the understanding of the construction of this memory based on the patrimonialization of Valença's railway past in connection with the historiography on the subject.

  • The present proposal of a fragment of the dissertation investigates how the members of a group formed by homosexuals, transsexuals and transvestites - that is, people from the LGBTQIAP+ community have transformed and re-signified the meanings of culture, diversity and sociability. Intending, therefore, to narrate to record and give visibility to a story of common people who, to a certain extent, challenge the “intelligibility matrix” or “heterosexual matrix” (BUTLER, 2015) in their “representations” (GOFFMAN, 2014) in Festas Juninas (ALMEIDA, LÉLIS, 2004; BARROSO, 2013; LOPES, 2012; NOLETO, 2014; SIMAS, 2018) and promote changes both in the meanings of these parties and in socialization practices. To develop the theme proposed here, the qualitative paradigm of doing research was treated (MOTTA-ROTH, HENDGES, 2010; SANTOS, 2009), as well as taking Cultural History as a theoretical basis (BURKE, 2008; CHARTIER, 1990) and the Cultural Studies (BAPTISTA, 2009; ESCOSTEGUY, 2010; JOHNSON, 2010; MATTELART, NEVEU, 2004), aiming at the interdisciplinary approach that both fields postulate. It is also important to note that I adopt an ethnographic paradigm (SANTOS, 2009) for data generation. It should also be noted that Clifford's (2016) view of ethnography was also adopted, that is, as an allegory - a textual practice - that focuses on the narrative aspect of cultural representations and the stories built within the logic of the representational process. . In this way, any cultural description neither represents nor symbolizes “that other”, but it is a story morally invested in “that other”. Therefore, recognizing ethnographic writing as allegorical demands from us, readers and authors of ethnographies, a struggle to confront and to assume responsibility for our systematic constructions of others and of ourselves through others. (CLIFFORD, 2016).

  • To acknowledge the natural as heritage is comprehend, to begin with, that the relationship between men and nature qualifies it. Even knowing that in Baixada Fluminense (BF) this aware look over the environment is not accurate, it is our duty to think about the transformations that this interaction may propose. In addition to that, based on a focus analysis over the Parque Natural Municipal de Nova Iguaçu (PNMNI) it is aimed to understand – through bibliographic data and research in field – a way to rename the local look not only over the natural, but also over its history. Meanwhile, the general objective here is to analyze how it is given the appropriation over the natural areas building a meaning to the cultural natural heritage, its challenge and potentialities through the territory known as Baixada Fluminense, focusing on the PNMNI.  Our discussion start with an overall on the Patrimonial Letters also the Brazilian environmental laws in a way to evaluate how they recognize the conservation of the nature as a benefit to society, eliciting the BF’s history since before it has its name, characterizing it with the positive and negative points that promulgate the viability of this exchange, to further, bring to knowledge the PNMNI not only as leisure are – as the common sense sees it – but besides its role to the historical, cultural, social and natural heritage to the community and to whom visits it. Methodologically, to complement these questions, it is used the bibliographic data base contextualizing it to two models of qualitative interviews, one structured applied during the pandemic to open questions about the general interests of this research, and other semi-structured to fulfill the data found among the projects already available to allow us to rebuild this belonging feeling. As a result, we may mention the projects alongside the participation of the Local Environment Political Department united with the universities and part of the local habitants as said in the interview, being among them: Tenda Conhecer, Um dia no Parque, Encontro de Pesquisadores and Parque para Todos. All of them based on the purpose to approximate the locals and visitors to their natural component aiming to rename this possible relationship with the community.

  • The purpose of this work is to analyze initiatives for the identification and preservation of the Cultural Heritage of Science and Technology in Technical Schools (PCC&T), hitherto little investigated. These school units are important spaces for the storage of scientific and technological objects used in technical and professional education, reserving still unexplored treasures. Due to the existence of century-old vocational school units incorporated into the Technical School Support Foundation (FAETEC) and adding to this the acquisition of equipment for the classroom laboratories such as: tools, machinery, utensils, furniture, manuals, among others, it appears It is known that the Cultural Heritage of Science and Technology (PCC&T) in these institutions is gigantic. It is worth mentioning that the technological advances, which spanned the last two centuries, partially or totally replaced the existing forms of production, as the world of work became automated and modernized. Such changes had a direct impact on professional education and, consequently, on the tools used in schools for technical education. Obsolete, many of these artifacts, which were once decisive for the quality offered in the training of students, were being discarded or removed from school learning, generating concern about discarding without criteria. In this sense, the present work intends to contribute to the debates about the preservation of the memory of the scientific and technological heritage, in turn, so valuable for our society. The set of educational units of the FAETEC Network brings together a valuable historical school collection specific to technical and professional training in the State of Rio de Janeiro. Therefore, it needs to be preserved due to the relevance of witnessing the scientific and technological transformations that have occurred over time in the world of work and in the training of Brazilian workers. Finally, this theme deals with highlighting the importance of preserving the heritage of Science and Technology in Professional Education as a construction of citizenship and collective identity.

  • This research seeks to analyze the specifics of the dynamics of the organization and exposure of memories of the participants of the Facebook page “Cabuçu tem histórias” in the process of building a collective memory in the Cabuçu neighborhood, with the particular purpose of members in the preservation and dissemination of your story. Having as main problem to analyze the way that the integration and the exchange relations that occurred in this virtual environment are collaborating for the construction of a collective memory and preservation of the meanings and social representations of the cultural assets of the neighborhood for its residents and ex-residents. To prove this hypothesis, bibliographic survey methodologies, interviews with former residents of the neighborhood and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data on the page are being used. For this purpose, some extensions of the page's organizational reality were taken into account, such as the rules and the way in which each one expresses himself when posting. Aiming to reach not only the understanding of the organization, the research intends to propose that the page “Cabuçu tem histórias” is constituted as a virtual space of expression of belonging, identity, collective memories and stories of the residents of the neighborhood through the recognition of the space through the eyes of the community and the collective memory of the participants.

  • In the research we intend to develop, quilombo is understood as a place of memory and resistance in the trajectory of the struggle of the black population, which begins with the colonial period and extends to the present day. In this way, we seek to identify the current difficulties faced by them in the field of recognition and preservation of their territory and, consequently, of their cultural heritage. We understand that the community of Quilombo de Santana recognizes itself from a certain territoriality that is only possible due to the existence of a set of cultural references, which they appropriate both in a more subjective scope and in a more concrete dimension with the land where they occupy, like family farming, the production of handicrafts made with local materials. Furthermore, based on this appropriation, they institute social practices that feed back a particular dimension of the world that constitutes a territoriality. The main objective of this research is to understand the appropriation of land and its symbolic uses from the memories of the members of this community. In this sense, we seek to identify and systematize the main cultural references that currently stand out according to the perception of the quilombolas themselves. For this, we used as a methodology semi-structured interviews, electronic forms and we organized the identified references through sheets with categories (places, celebrations, knowledge, etc.). with a view to recognizing its cultural, historical and social legacy. We believe that these references are responsible for strengthening the quilombola identity and express the feeling of belonging that the population of the Santana quilombo have with their territory and with the history of the place.

  • The research aims to map the presence of tile panels with hagiographic iconography in the homes of the Ramos neighbourhood, located in the North Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Following Portuguese bibliography on art history and heritage, we call these panels “registros de santos.”  These are decorative pieces, which are usually believed to perform a protective function for the homes they decorate.  We consider the “registros de santos” as a strong trait of Portuguese heritage in Ramos, but we also discuss the syncretism with Afro-Brazilian religions that usually  can pe detected in the panels found in Ramos. Our research also presents the cataloguing of the panels in the neighbourhood, based on which we propose an interactive digital map of its occurrences and quantitative analyses, in order to verify the most frequent devotions.  We conclude considering considerations the meanings and functions of the “registros de santos” in Ramos, based on interviews made with a portion of the neighbourhood residents.

  • This research aims to discuss the scope of the preservation and conservation policies implemented on the first building of the Austin train station. Investigate which actions of public property managers are, in fact, being effective in the conservation of this asset that is part of the railway cultural heritage. The general objective is to understand the railway heritage preservation policy within the scope of IPHAN and the actions of the public administration according to the different agents (IPHAN, INEPAC, State Government, Nova Iguaçu City Hall). Establishing a connection with the investigated object and based on documentary research, interviews with managers and local residents, this paper intends to be carried out in order to determine its current situation. Using a dialectical method in a confrontation between the subjects that deal with the railway cultural heritage, it is possible to question the object as to its turn from use of the railway heritage as a secondary function, because, when not preserved, it raises doubts about not effectiveness of the recommended actions, mainly in the field of legality, revealing a gap on such actions that would need to be implemented, but are not. It seeks to unravel why such actions are not carried out, confirming the absence of a comprehensive management of the building, resulting in the total lack of characterization of the investigated property, loss of its authenticity and consequently its deterioration in line with the loss of its historical value. As specific objectives, it is proposed to provide a broad view as to the effectiveness or not of the plans for preservation and valuation of the property in question. It allows a discussion with a critical and constructive approach in order to bring other paths that contribute to more effective management with a focus on space conservation and preservation. This paper follows an objective division of three chapters where in the first chapter the intention is to introduce concepts about how the railway sector was a precursor during the expansion of the means of production and why today it is configured as a cultural cultural heritage, in a historical perspective, in order to understand that the railway sector has undergone several changes over the decades until its decline. Understand that it was not established alone, but was motivated by the wishes for expansion in economic production, cost cutting in line with what was already occurring on the world stage and, consequently, in some cities, changes in the territorial plan. In addition to this, studies on heritage conservation policies in the three spheres of the federation and the role of institutions in the preservation of the sector will be addressed, as well as the participation of social actors, allowing to understand the functions and fields of action, what are their competencies and what is developed about the good investigated and the possible difficulties that each one faces. In the second chapter, it will try to contextualize the well researched from the knowledge produced, seeking to understand its influence on the neighborhood. In the third chapter, the research intends to discuss about the integral management of the patrimony, and how the management instruments are being used in the preservation of the railway patrimony.

  • This work intends to problematize graffiti not as a destroyer of the memory of public patrimonies, but as an act of resistance, a form of expression and a way of acting in history, from individuals and collectives that put themselves in constant dispute against political, economic forces. and social. The graffiti is seen through the prism of the current constitutional text, the proclamation of freedom and the cultural heritage of Brazilian society, as well as the heritage policies that, following the urban dynamism, call for respect and adequacy to the surroundings and ambience. The analysis of graffiti defends a way of acting and creating just like those with which, in time and space, the built heritage and monuments set in the urban environment were created. It is intended to expose the dialectic of this phenomenon in time, space and place, from the legislation and decisions coming from the public power.

  • The Black Arturos Community of Contagem (MG) is recognized for the appreciation of their ancestors, diverse artistic and cultural productions and their devotion to Nossa Senhora do Rosário. Its title of Intangible Heritage granted by IEPHA - MG was one of the milestones of this recognition. One of the great celebrations organized by the group is the Reinado which takes place in October, whose main saint of devotion is Nossa Senhora do Rosário. Authors such as Edimilson de Almeida Pereira and Leda M. Martins brought to light that the chants sung and composed during the celebration of Reinado/Congado have the potential to store black memories. From these theoretical preambles, the present work aims to demonstrate the songs capability in safeguarding memories of African origin in the Community; the present research asks the following question: how does singing preserve memories of an African matrix culture in the Arturos Community? In this sense, the research's main objective is to analyze the song in the context of the Reinado in the Arturos Community as the guardian/receptacle of an African matrix memory. This work, therefore, is dedicated to making an analysis on the preservation of memories of African origin in the singing to then understand how this develops in its register in the Minas Gerais organ, the IEPHA. As a secondary objective, this work indicates the possible gaps the Registration Dossier exhibits when describing the singing throughout its pages. We observe that the dossier needs to deepen what the singing actually represent. Despite this, the title of Intangible Heritage has brought benefits to the Community such as the growing appreciation of its culture and the main objective of land regularizations of Arturos strengthens with the registration. The Arturos currently continue to sing their song in memory of their ancestors and saints of devotion and continue to update their methods of perpetuating their knowledge.

  • Between October and February of the year 2019 in Chile, one of the biggest social revolts started after the dictatorship; during these months 1,343 National and Public Monuments suffered some kind of alteration, be it graffiti, fires, collapse, deformation, theft, symbolic beheadings, among others. The traces left by the revolt over the urban heritage, make us think that it is not an irrational vandalism, but iconoclastic acts with an evident communicative intention. In this sense, the objective of this case study is to analyze the use of cultural heritage as a space for the visibility of socio-political struggles, applied to the intervention and / or intentional destruction of public monuments during the Chilean social revolt from October to February 2019, for through the analysis of the public opinion discourse expressed in the media and in the testimonies of Chileans.

  • The present research focuses on the study of the tradition of know-how of the Tapeceiras do Espraiado in the municipality of Maricá, which is located in the State of Rio de Janeiro. It is a tradition that dates back to the life and trajectory of Madeleine Colaço, who in the 1950s moved to Espraiado and spread this art there, which has become a relevant cultural element for the local population and a Brazilian reference in the field of tapestry. . The technique taught by Madeleine Colaço is preserved, marked by a stitch inspired, according to the artisan herself, in the rhythm and cadence of the samba, for the creation of tapestries. Today the tapestries are made by the group of Tapeceiras do Espraiado and the production of this group is exposed in a local studio and in different events that are inscribed both in the cultural calendar of the city as well as in events outside the city space itself. For a better understanding of the importance of the safeguarding dimension of the know-how of the Tapeceiras do Espraiado, the tradition linked to the memory of Madeleine Colaço, the diffusion of this tradition and its appropriation by the local community over seven decades, and, still , it is argued that this know-how is established as a cultural heritage of the city of Maricá. Therefore, this research dialogues with the field of Oral History, and is based on a set of interviews carried out with contemporary artisans who preserve this know-how, with people who lived with the artisan and, also, with local residents who recognize themselves in this expression that is associated with the field not only of crafts but also of art. This work is also anchored in the concepts of identity and memory, as this know-how marks the routine of artisans in the city of Maricá, not only because it ensures their sustainability, but, especially, because it creates bonds of belonging, through this expression, which extends to a wider collective of tapestries and tapestries admirers

  • There is a change in the role played by the young, specifically black as a subject in society. Whether in the private sphere, as in the family system or at a more comprehensive level where a political, social and citizen position are most in demand, today's youth are positioned differently compared to the late 1990s. The creation and consolidation of policies statements, as well as the dissemination of social networks as a space of resistance and sharing of ideas, make these changes in the way that identity manifests itself be seen more clearly, even though the behavior is only a fragment that encompasses the complexity that it is the appropriation of customs and perspectives of a social group. In view of the above, the present work seeks to understand which culture is spoken here, based on the principle that it dialogues with society, and generates repercussions in different social fields, such as political and economic. We relate the impact of this relationship on the construction of the subject and the way he positions himself as a social actor. To understand a modern identity, shared and generating social practices that aim to break a racist and excluding logic, we will analyze the speeches of active members, and those who share the traits of black youth from the periphery, expressed in the musical group Batidas e Rimas.

  • This research is aimed at reflecting on the creation of didactic-pedagogical strategies in Heritage Education and its political, dialogical and communicative aspect, in a sensitizing and participatory perspective that points out dilemmas and complexities existing in the approach of knowledge and methodologies that need to be negotiated in the process of elaborating the pedagogical discourse of Heritage Education. The idea that we present comprises Cultural Heritage as an essential means for the constitution of identities and Heritage Education as a space for expression and political representation of the Other and the Self and also for the recognition of difference as a possibility of building meaning. Thus, we seek to establish a dialogue between Cultural Heritage and Education, with the school as a place of investigation, as it is a different space for the production of interdisciplinary knowledge, showing that the field of Heritage Education is an area of eminently interdisciplinary knowledge and that the idea of transformation of scientific knowledge with the intention of teaching and disseminating it is not organized in the form of simple “adjustment” or “simplification” of knowledge. Understanding the pedagogical discourse production process can assist in different ways the construction and appropriation of the discourse presented in the field of Heritage Education. We aim to understand the pedagogical discourse of Heritage Education presented in public policies for education and culture, and its relationship with aspects of citizenship and cultural rights, from the concepts of discursive semiotics and art-education; to investigate heritage education and art education practices interested in building processes of interaction between the differences that constitute Brazilian social diversity; observe studies of discursive semiotics in school teaching-learning, aimed at building discourses of acceptance of difference and social inclusion and articulating systemically aspects of heritage education as a pedagogical intervention practice for social inclusion and state actions in the area of culture. In order to substantiate our knowledge on the subject, we gathered in bibliographic research theoretical assumptions from authors in the field of Heritage Education, such as Maria de Lourdes Parreiras Horta, Evelina Grunberg and Adriane Queiroz Monteiro (1999), Elisa Roberta Zanon, Leandro Henrique Magalhães and Patrícia Martins Castelo White (2009); Cultural Policies, Isaura Botelho (2007), Marilena Chauí (2006) and Lia Calabre (2018); from Discursive Semiotics, Algirdas Julius Greimas (2008) and Eric Landowski (2012); da Arte-Educação, Ana Mae Barbosa (1999) and Herbert Read (2001), articulated by the concept of Recontextualization of the pedagogical discourse of Basil Bernstein (2003) as didactic and methodological support for possible interventions aimed at the effectiveness, continuity, evaluation and adjustment of policies for the democratization of cultural rights for all.

The memory and preservation of the history of a samba school is a theme that makes it possible to recognize and know the cultural potential of Brazilian society. The study of this work was carried out specifically on the foundation of GRES Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel, referring to the period of the 50s and 60s, bringing some stories of families, dialoguing with the past, in the present and proposing reflections for the future. Interspersing with the formation of the neighborhood, and enabling a knowledge of examples of love for life, encounters and especially Samba, through the creativity of existing and resisting. We use the rotation of the Bahians, the master rooms and flag holders, and the singing of the birds, representing the composers, showing the various cards of possible identities. It was used as a methodology, the qualitative approach, oral history, a work written by various hands and thinking minds, providing a return to the roots that gave good fruit, where we use the genealogical trees to compose this plot. In the front commission we present the potential of groups, which reproduce various civilizing values of African philosophy, so present in black families, that they resignify their existences, overcoming the invisible wall of impossibilities. And in the highlight confirming that "Dreaming costs nothing", we present the Youth of yesteryear, a known and beloved association through its large battery note 10, which makes the heart beat with joy when the drums play. Return to a past that enhances and increases the pride of being of Father Miguel, Telling stories of Ivos, Andrés, Silvios, Dengos, Orozimbos, Arys, Wandyrs, Toco, Tiãos, Jorjões and Tiãozinhos. And also of the great female presence in this trajectory, of the Chicas, Gildas, Helenas, Rembas, Nadirs, Nildas, Bibianas, Selmas and Elzas, members representing the Gallery of the Old Guard, which are of paramount importance for a Samba School, representing in the whole of harmony, the golden key of maintenance of this portal, so fundamental for dialogue Save the Youth!

  • The purpose of this of dissertation is to investigate the use of the Chilean heritage of the arpilleria as an instrument of political resistance by woman who are part of the Movement of People Affected by the Dam of Cachoeiras de Macacu, city that makes up the region of Rio de Janeiro. As a Chilean cultural heritage, the arpillera technique was signified by Brazilian woman with regard to the materials used and recontextualized according to their demands related to the issue of the impacts caused by implementation of the COMPERJ DAM in the municipality. The present work is based on the collective memory of the MAB female farmers who are expressed in the arpillera and is underlying their technique. The know-how that permeates the tapestry keeps, through the technique, layers of memory inscribed on the body of the artisan that are expressed through the movements of his hands in the making of objects the before referring to the utility, they produce languages that reveal a symbolic dimension informing about the time and the conditions in which they were produced. Among the guiding axes for the analysis of the use of arpilleria by the women who produce them in contemporary art and the strategies against hegemony linked to the concepts of sustainable development, ecofeminism, agroecology and food sovereignty defended by Via Campesina and ONU as alternatives of resistance to developmentism that legitimized the implementation of dams and their environmental impacts and social effects on rural populations, as well as power relations implied in the binomial capitalism/patriarchy that permeate class and, mainly, gender relations in the rural world.

  • The adaptable reuse of historical structures extends its life cycle within the lifespan of the urban resources. Economic arguments can contribute to support and up value actions to conserve the cultural heritage. Therefore, the presented study intend to reflect on the economical benefits as also to suggest indicators that predict the economic viability of the historic building conservation, in light of the construction of new buildings for the same use. After an extensive analysis of international bibliographical references specialized in economical conservation, a case report was carried out using two environmental economic indicators. Both indicators act on the built environment, being one the constructive economy indicator and the other conservation of urban centers indicator. In order to illustrate regional conservation practices, applying selected indicators and making progress on the economy of conservation, the “Fábrica do Conhecimento” in Paracambi- RJ was used as a case report. The selected case report is referred to a set of buildings, protected by the state government and the actions of conservation and using conversions of this factory complex of an old Brazilian Textil Corporation in a center of opportunity, mediated by Paracambi municipal administration. The application of the environmental indicators showed that even the necessity of some adaptations, expense to a new built for the same finality and with the same building quality would have higher budget and execution time, in addition to another projects difficulties. The conclusions of this case report showed the old factory complex was reframed, serving as a development inducer and becoming a invited place with several study opportunities, professionalization, culture, social events and service offer to the community.

  • This dissertation discusses the possibility of understanding the woodcut matrix as a deponent element of the author's knowledge. It aims to discuss how the matrix is potentially descriptive of the subject and constitutes itself as cultural heritage. For this, using a qualitative methodological approach, we verified the relevance of the research regarding the matrix as immaterial heritage. We approach material culture as relative and confirming this presumed, observing in this material object the marks of the knowledge that created it. The dissertation also considers the practice of wood engraving, its history, definitions, context and construction, be it material or syntactic, considering the role of the matrix in the construction of the subject and in the construction of the cultural fabric. This understanding qualifies the reflection about the woodcut matrix as a element that keeps in itself, physically and as language, traits capable of projecting the knowledge contained therein, and of configuring it as an immaterial good.

  • This dissertation focuses on the study of Vila de Cava Station and, in particular, on the dialogue that this heritage property establishes with the field of railway memory. There are many constituent elements of the railway memory that mark the town of Cava, which today is a neighborhood that integrates the municipality of Nova Iguaçu, in the State of Rio de Janeiro. These elements that still exist in the individual and collective imagination of men and women, especially older generations, are being erased and, therefore, need to be revisited and remembered. One of the objectives of this research is, therefore, to reflect on the memories contained in the individual and collective imagination of individuals and social groups who live near the Vila de Cava Station and who, somehow, built experiences from the space of the station that was part of the Rio D'Ouro Railway. The station was listed as a historic heritage site in the city of Nova Iguaçu, Rio de Janeiro, by the State Institute of Cultural Heritage (INEPAC) in 1989. However, despite being listed as a cultural heritage of the city, there was no management and development of the station. State or county about it. This dissertation searched in the local history and in the reminiscences of the inhabitants of the region, elements that could identify the memories linked to the station and that were constituted in different temporalities. And, also signs that, perhaps, could establish it as an object of (re)cognition by its community, to the point where it is actually recognized as a railway cultural heritage. This research is also anchored in the concepts of place and duty of memory, railway memory and cultural heritage. Memory because it starts from the premise that there is an intention to remember something that was previously important in the private or collective field. And, by accessing these memories and their places, memory can support history on a path in which memory can serve the writing of history. The railway memory is evoked, as it seeks to recognize the legacy left by the railway industrial heritage and the importance of its testimony, whose heritage is associated with the great transformations that have taken place in humanity since the 19th century. And cultural heritage, as it is the guiding concept of this dissertation, as it aggregates elements of material and immaterial culture in an interdisciplinary way and in multiple approaches. In addition to these guiding concepts, the research turns to the field of oral history in a qualitative approach aiming at empirical studies. We sought to underline the importance of the narratives that were formed from the station and also the potential they present to refound the identity of the Vila de Cava region.

  • The objective of this research is to discuss the transformations of the urban territory of Nova Iguaçu, from the construction of the via Light, and the consequences for the understanding of its cultural landscape by its residents. After the construction and consolidation of Via Light, as Nova Iguaçu's main urban mobility route, information companies, in the most diverse sectors of the economy, were attracted to the analyzed area, as well as new urban equipment were built there, which influenced the conformation landscape and spatial aspects of the region, as well as the redefinition of the cultural landscape in this metropolitan axis. Therefore, to achieve the objectives outlined for this research, the applied methodology had, as a first stage, exploratory research, that is, bibliographical, documental and field research, in which an interview with one of the urban planners responsible for the road project was prioritized, and due to a Covid-19 pandemic, research via the Internet with residents of Nova Iguaçu who have lived with the local dynamics for over 30 years. As a result, consider that Nova Iguaçu known, in contemporary times, as an important centrality of the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro, especially the Baixada Fluminense, with its modernized spaces, which has Via Light as a great spatial and historical landmark of the process, is, without a doubt, a city totally different from the discovery until the 1980s. The demolition of the walls that cut as the main streets of its center and left in its "heart" idle spaces and barriers for the circulation of passersby, which gave the impression of a city split in half, with two very different ones, meant the production for this one of a new urban and cultural landscape.

  • The study deals with the Brotherhood of Santo Elesbão and Santa Efigênia, a religious institution founded in the 18th century in the city of São Sebastião in Rio de Janeiro by enslaved Africans from Costa da Mina, Cape Verde, São Thomé Island and Mozambique, currently located at Rua da Alfândega, nº 219, on the corner of Avenida Passos, in the center of Rio de Janeiro, in SAARA. The lens for the study was the commitment (bylaw) built at the same time and authorized 10 years after its formalization. The other lens used was the listing process carried out by INEPAC of the Church of the Brotherhood of São Elesbão and Santa Efigênia as a heritage of the State of Rio de Janeiro, which shows that there is a wide silence in relation to the Afro matrix symbols that are present in the space ritual of that institution. The central question presented in this study is: Can the Brotherhood of Black Men of Santo Elesbão and Santa Efigênia be understood as a place of ancestral memory of the legacy of black culture in Rio de Janeiro? These questions are associated with others, such as: a) What are the religious brotherhoods of black men in Brazil and how were they formed?; b) How was the creation of the Brotherhood of Santo Elesbão and Santa Efigênia in Rio de Janeiro?; c) Does the Santo Elesbão and Santa Efigênia Brotherhood keep a black African cultural legacy in Rio de Janeiro? Based on these questions, the study aims to: analyze the Brotherhood of Santo Elesbão and Santa Efigênia as guardian of a memory and history of the struggle of enslaved Africans and their descendants against slavery, for identity affirmation and cultural resistance in Rio de January. The specific objectives are: a) To historically contextualize the emergence of the Brotherhoods of Black Men since their origin and constitution as a space for cultural struggle and resistance of Africans and their descendants in Brazil; b) Characterize the social and cultural configuration of the Brotherhood of Black Men of Santo Elesbão and Santa Efigênia from the perspective of the protagonism of the African black community in Rio de Janeiro; c) Establish the relationship between the Brotherhood of Black Men of Santo Elesbão and Santa Efigênia with a black African cultural legacy in Rio de Janeiro made invisible by cultural preservation policies, linking the marks and symbolic elements existing in the interior of the Church listed by INEPAC to the universe of the religiosity of the Candomblé terreiros community, therefore the guardian of an ancestral memory. Characterized as a case study, the research suffered strongly from the effects of the pandemic caused by COVID-19 with a direct impact on the partially carried out field work, starting to configure itself as documentary and bibliographic research with a qualitative approach, which allowed its completion. Highlighting the importance of the Brotherhood of Santo Elesbão and Santa Efigênia as holder of a legacy of black African culture in Rio de Janeiro, we hope that this work has contributed to greater visibility on themes related to memory, history and black culture or African matrix in positive perspective of its collective subjects, Afro-Brazilians, in the field of studies on cultural preservation in our country.

  • This paper is a study that discusses the experiences and artistic-cultural practices of the Psychosocial Care Network (RAPS), in particular, the contributions of therapeutic workshops of the CAPS (Psychosocial Care Center) device and its internal and external relations to cultural references and assets and their patrimonialization. It is intended to highlight that the policies of patrimonialization and Cultural Rights add one more space that demystifies the social imaginary of the mental health service users and guarantee one more place of citizenship for them. It is assumed that the spaces that circulate Art & Culture in the field of mental health and psychosocial care are also resignifications of phenomena that involve the re/construction of the subject in its individuality and collectivity through cultural, symbolic, artistic, and identity expressions. Historically, among the Brazilian movements that stood out in the struggle to replace the asylums system in mental health was the Mental Health Workers Movement (MTSM). This movement, in 1987, during the II National Congress of Mental Health Workers, was transformed into an organized and broad social movement, called: Movimento pela Luta Antimanicomial (Movement for the Anti-mental asylum system). As the social movements occupied spaces in the political scenario and put pressure on the state power, the legislation, then, was being altered (Amarante, 1994). It was from the social mobilizations and the legal transformations that the health services were sought to be organized, prioritizing the integrality of actions, the universality of access to services and the democratic participation, considering the attention to the person in psychic suffering in the scope of citizenship and not only of assistance through the Unified Health System (SUS - Law 8080/90). One of the mental health devices resulting from this struggle is the CAPS. This study aimed to ponder the relations of cultural heritage and its various contexts of political and social practices in the mental health environment, through the contextualization of the use of art-culture and its signs during the practices of mental health care and psychosocial attention of the device CAPS III - Dr. Jayr Nogueira, located in the center of the city of Nova Iguaçu, metropolitan region of RJ, in Baixada Fluminense. The author intended to formulate and apply questionnaires and semi-structured interviews as a research tool with users, family members, and employees of CAPS III - Jayr Nogueira. However, due to the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic in the beginning of the year 2020 in Brazil, unfortunately entering the year 2021, the actions reserved for the collection, analysis, and treatment of these data were summarily compromised. Not because of this, an imposing dialogue between Cultural Rights, Human Rights, cultural diversity, care practices in mental health and psychosocial care, and their emancipations that strengthen the integration guidelines of the Anti-Attempted Treatment. Contributions that awaken another "social place" for madness and mental illness and its re-significations through heritage policies. The patrimonialization ensures the protection of the collective memory, the debate on important themes for the Anti-mental asylum struggle, and the recognition of the autonomy and protagonism of users.

It is speculated that this work will move towards the understanding that it will be necessary to make a relativization of the main concepts that guide conservation interventions in order to meet the demands of the current users and maintain the historical character of collective social housing of these buildings. At the same time, it is essential that care be taken to ensure that such interventions do not exceed the preservation of the authenticity and integrity of these properties, thus de-characterizing them. It is conjectured that the search for this limit will be one of the guiding principles of this research.

  • The present work searches through the historiographic analysis of documentation, to establish parallels on the destruction and submersion of São João Marcos city, through the places of memory in relation to the city, which in a nineteenth century moment, had relevent importance for the Country, and little more than half a century later it becomes emptied of meaning and importance to the Brazilian State. Although for its relevance of its rare example of Neocolonial architectural set was listed by SPHAN on May 19, 1939, shortly after being revoked his protection by President Getúlio Vargas on June 3, 1940, with the nation's progress justification. The main objective of this work is to try to understand how the memory from the documentary records and the residents reports, can reinvigorate or establish important ties with the past and the daily reality of São João Marcos city, and how this city destruction rupture created gaps in the history of this population and its identity.

  • Throughout the last decades of the twentieth century, many advances have taken place within the field cultural heritage, especially in matters related to cultural goods of immaterial nature and in the educational directives directed to the Cultural Heritage. Through a historical and bibliographical survey, this work aims to investigate the role of Heritage Education and its importance for society within a globalized context, where conflict and cultural disputes are part of the patrimonialisation process of cultural assets. In this context, it is also sought to relate the use of comic book narratives as a highly popular and efficient pedagogical resource to assist in the development of educational actions aimed at the preservation of intangible heritage. In this sense, we will strive to exemplify the potential of such a pedagogical resource in relation to the matrices of urban samba in Rio de Janeiro (Partido Alto, Samba de Terreiro and Samba-Enredo), recognized by UNESCO as Immaterial Cultural Heritage of Brazil in 2007.

  • The study aims to (re) analyze the urban policies implemented in the city of Rio de Janeiro, specifically in the port region. As well as the use of public space, and how different groups were affected in this process, including the management of cultural heritage. We start from the analysis of the historical process of urbanization of the politics of Mayor Pereira Passos, period from 1902 to 1906, inspired by the city model implemented by Haussmann in Paris, France in 1853-1882. Other urbanistic interventions mark this process of extension and remodeling, besides the insertion of new urban and cultural equipments. Along the same line of argument, the process of hierarchization of the urban fabric with a view to the isolation belt that segregates the port area and the neighborhoods that make up the region such as Saúde, Gamboa, Santo Cristo called SAGAS. In this context, we start from the assumption that the process of urban (re) planning at the same time that configures the urban landscape, (re) functionalizes spaces, tends to limit and barriers, while revealing social segregation and marginalization. cultural references of different groups, in which we have as background the dialectic of cultural capital versus economic capital inserted in the dynamics of space production and social relations. Based on the fundamental theoretical and methodological investigation regarding our object of study, it can be seen that the processes and urban configurations in the city of Rio de Janeiro have contributed to the forgetting of the cultural references of different identity groups, including Afro-Brazilian culture. . Since then, the argument is that the barriers, limitations and the valorization of public spaces show that a compensation mechanism has been created in the urban culture of the city in order to invest in public space for the desire of the private, in which spaces and equipment apparently '' public '' and cultural are appropriated by certain social groups / classes, in pursuit of social status and income, even no different in the field of cultural heritage.

  • Developed under the Post-Graduate Program in Heritage, Culture and Society - PPGPACS/IM/UFRRJ, at the master's level, with Safeguarding as our object of research, we intend to analyze the actions initiated in the state of Rio de Janeiro from the Meeting of Masters of Capoeira promoted by IPHAN in 2013; the work of the Council of Masters and the Working Group for Safeguarding Capoeira seeking to answer questions that we understand as important for the construction of a Safeguarding Plan. The methodology used by us in this investigation and the questions formulated by us are part of a descriptive study on the process of safeguarding capoeira in the state of Rio de Janeiro, whose central idea is to analyze this process in the light of the specialized literature and the gaze of masters of capoeira. To this end, we use documental and bibliographic research, adding to this the survey and data collection using Google Forms, applied there are some capoeira masters who participated in the safeguard actions, both in the Council of Masters and the Working Group. Since this is a dynamic and complex phenomenon inherent to human behavior, we have opted for a specific qualitative approach in studies in the field of social sciences, characterized by dealing "with human beings, who, for cultural or class reasons, age group, or any other reason", may present a common connection and substrate between researcher and researcher, in the sense explained by Minayo (1994, p.13 ) corroborating with Lévi-Strauss, that "in a science, where the observer is of the same nature as the object, the observer himself is a part of his research" (LEVI-STRAUSS apud MINAYO, 1994, p. 14). With the documentary research we seek to investigate the safeguarding of capoeira from primary sources such as the official documents produced mainly within the IPHAN, among which we highlight the Dossiers that support the Registry of the Masters and the Roda of Capoeira, specific legislation, ordinances, minutes and reports of the meetings, etc.  With the bibliographic research we seek to identify and analyze secondary sources, such as books, journal articles and materials available on the Internet on the subject, starting with the set of publications and academic works on capoeira and cultural heritage, other sources converging with the theme of preservation of Afro-Brazilian culture or African matrix. Many of the researched works approach the theme from theoretical perspectives of different scientific fields, such as anthropology, sociology, political science, education, history, geography, philosophy and law. In the final considerations, we conclude this work calling attention to the fact that the state of Rio de Janeiro has ceased to be a protagonist in the country as a reference in actions aimed at safeguarding capoeira, losing strength in the face of the experiences of other states that initiated discussions after those initiated here, in a process of collective construction involving different subjects such as the owners and holders of capoeira, government agencies linked to public policy on cultural heritage, such as IPHAN and INEPAC and other institutions of organized civil society.

  • This research, as part of an interdisciplinary master's degree in heritage, culture and society, has chosen to study an institution that is outstanding in the Baixada Fluminense that deals with issues related to the expansion of the patrimonial field: the Living Museum of São Bento. This choice was due to the need and importance of valuing and strengthening initiatives that focus on the heritage, memory and history of the Baixada Fluminense, which are so expensive for the region. To do so, the research includes the Living Museum of São Bento as a space of struggle and resistance since its creation and also invests in the perception and characterization of the meaning of the multiple activities developed within the institution. It thus takes the social museology, of which the Living Museum of São Bento has praxis, as an important reference, which demonstrates from the fronts of actions and senses of the museum, what are the uses and appropriations that are made of the knowledge and do local and that contribute to the construction of feelings of belonging and of collectivity, besides encouraging the experimentation from the perspective of the fields of cultural patrimony, patrimonial education and social museology. This work, therefore, announces these fields as inclusive and democratic tools to be used and appropriated in the service of social inclusion and human dignity.

  • The protection actions of the communities, within the scope of public policies of cultural heritage, started in the eighties, through the resistance of communities and organized civil society groups, in defense of the memory and cultural heritage of the diaspora African people in Brazil. To understand how as the National Institute of Historic and Artistic of brazilian Cultural Heritage - IPHAN, preservation processes occurred in communities, from the existing narratives in the institution, we investigate these processes, their technical and bureaucratic procedures, correlating them to social resistance by the recognition of the African heritage in Brazil, memory and belonging of the black people, in defense of cultural diversity, of anti-racist resistance, democracy and secularism. The IPHAN, in eighty years, listed eleven traditional communities from the sacred places of African matrix in national territory. All listed communities are located in the Northeast region of the country, one in the state of Maranhão, nine in the state of  Bahia, and one in the state of Pernambuco. This work, therefore, aims to contribute to the construction of the area of cultural heritage as integrated, in conservation and safeguard actions, formed by the tangible and intangible, as a citizen tool in the defense of fundamental rights for human lifes. • The rich Resende cultural heritage, built as an inheritance of the coffee culture, in the colonial and imperial periods of Brazil, resisted time, but it suffers nowadays with the risk of being lost, both in space and in the memory of the population of the municipality. The economic devaluation and abandonment of these architectural structures and historical monuments are maximized with the unplanned growth that went to the city in the last quartile of the XX century, when it became important industrial pole of the State of Rio de Janeiro, with population growth, real estate growth disinformation about the cultural space of the city and the accentuated appreciation of contemporary global culture, especially by the younger ones. Thus, this dissertation intends to present a discussion about Tourism Education in cities that has tourism as one of its economic and social activities, as well as its correlation with Patrimonial Education, in the case of historical cities or with historical remnants, such as case of Resende / RJ, represented by its Historical Center. The research methodology is characterized as: bibliographic, exploratory, descriptive and qualitative, using semi-structured interviews, with agents involved with the subject, and structured interviews, with open and closed questions, with residents of the Historic Center of Resende . The study on Patrimonial and Tourism Education stands out for its social relevance for the production of a permanent dialogue in the historical, cultural, economic, environmental, political, social and educational perspectives of the municipality. As a result it was realized that the local and tourist population needs to be sensitized through educational actions based on local tourism planning, for the awareness and conservation of the cultural assets of the municipality. It was noticed the existence of legal diplomas of planning that conjugate the area of education, patrimony and tourism, as well as projects related to the theme. However, there is no effective implementation in the principles present in the legal diplomas and in projects due to lack of clarification and discontinuity in its execution, not all the aspirated objectives have been achieved.

  • Since ancient times, writing letters was the primary means for approximating the missing, to expand the memory, socializing, information and overcome the limit between time and space. But if in the nineteenth century the art of letter writing has reached an unprecedented development, after the advent of the internet, communication by letters went into decline. In the course of the debate about whether the act of writing letters would be in the process of extinction or re-signification in the new codes and rules in cyber, we highlight the importance of a critical reflection on the writing of letters not only as a source, but also as an object, especially in a society based in the instantaneity of the information. In addition to written testimonials, that favour only the trajectory of the illustrious writers and its memorable historic achievements, we seek a more integrated culture, understanding that the objects are not part of the social life, that the document has a history, and that the marks, traces and residues left in the field are records of social processes that materialize on paper and ink. In this way, we propose a cultural history of the art of letter writing, by means of narratives, interdisciplinary, with emphasis on the relationship between the historicity of the objects and the materiality of social documents. More than a place of memory, the practice of writing of letters implies, therefore, in order to safeguard the know-how letter-writing as a cultural determinant in the construction of fluminense society nineteenth century, whose heritage produces effects until today.

  • The UFRRJ Archive is the object of study of this research that turns to the perception of this archive in its memory dimension, but, above all, from the document and its patrimonial perspective. It takes the UFRRJ Archive, in dialogue with its archive, in order to map the potential of its dimensions for the apprehension of management constitutive elements pertinent to a more adequate and useful valuation of the Archive. Thus, the UFRRJ Archive has been characterized since its formation, in order to recover its historicity and, to show the limits of the potential of this collection, the challenges of valuing it as a cultural asset, from the dialogue with the heritage perspective, taking as a reference the dimension of management and privileging its instruments. The aim of this paper is therefore to demonstrate the relation memory and archive in their informational context, as an instrument of construction and transmission of collective memories.

  • The central object of the research is the old railway branch of Governador Portella and Santa Rita de Jacutinga and its railway space, understood not only as the stations, or the trains and rails, but like all the complex that accompanies the characteristic structures. The Jacutinga Line, as it was known, began in Governador Portella, 2nd District of Miguel Pereira - RJ, passing through the municipalities of Rio de Janeiro, Engenheiro Paulo de Frontin, Vassouras, Valença to its final station in Santa Rita de Jacutinga - MG. Because of its size (147 km) and significant patrimony, a spatial and chronological. Thus, we investigated the history of the railroad and, more specifically, the railway complex and stations of Governador Portella, Santa Rita de Jacutinga, and Valença, from 1918 to 1972, under the category of “railway memory”. Based on theories that deal with the notions of social memory and place of memory, this article explores the material and imaginary construction of the railway space comprised with the Jacutinga Line, as well as the representations and social relations that have developed there. In another plan, we try to problematize how this category appears with the eradication of this extension in 1972. To date, the analyzes make it possible to affirm that the railway memory covers all the supports and sources of information, especially those of documentary-bibliographic, iconographic, historical, architectural and sociological. Regarding chapters 1, 2 and 3 presented to the Qualification Bank, they deal respectively with: the theoretical discussion about the concepts that underlie and support the theme; of a survey of literatures around the concept of “railway memory”, via the traditional patrimonial processes; and the main aspects of the formation of the railways, as well as the historical contextualization of its implantation from Rio de Janeiro to the formation of E. F. União Valenciana, origin of the branch studied.

  • The present research has the objective of analyzing the concept of public parks and their contribution in the formation of the identity of neighborhoods of the city of Rio de Janeiro, to serve as a subsidy to the analysis of the trajectory of the "Parque Jardim do Meier". To this end, historical values were considered, in reference to the region of its implantation, its identification as a public space resulting from an urban intervention in the northern district of the city of Rio de Janeiro in the first decades of the twentieth century, and the preservation of the identity of this space to the present. The research was carried out from the following stages: theoretical discussion about concept, characteristics and importance of public parks; in the trajectory of the urban evolution of the cities after the Industrial Revolution of the nineteenth century. For the development of the research, methodological procedures were adopted that were based on research: research on the evolution of parks and gardens in Europe during the period determined by the XVII and XIX centuries; collection and interpretation of data referring to urban and landscape interventions in the City of Rio de Janeiro.

  • Music inspires and provokes sensations, it provides reflections, articulating itself in different contexts.  An important element for the construction of the culture of a group or place, it provides the formation of references and cultural representations of such group or place, being also a means of recording their memories.  In this sense, the aim of this paper is to analyze song lyrics about Lapa in Rio de Janeiro, in order to identify some of the neighborhood memories, cultural aspects and to understand how music, culture, memory and the “place of memory” are related.  The songs that were chosen to be analized represent “Lapa in three moments in time”, Portela samba-plot, from 1971; “A Lapa”, composed by Benedito Lacerda and Herivelton Martins, in 1950; “Lapa na década de 30” by Moreira da Silva, composed in 1977; “Eu vou pra Lapa”, played by Alcione; “Flor da Lapa”, by Wilson Batista and Cesar Brasil, in 1950; and “Beijo sem”, composed by Adriana Calcanhotto, in 2009. Thus, we aim to discuss music as an element capable of evoking memories and also valuing and creating places of memory.  For such, we use as methodology, the bibliographical survey, the methods of content and textual analysis.  As a result, we could realize that lyrics can evoke memories, exalt characteristics of the Lapa neighborhood, and also understand the importance of apparatuses, such as music, which enables the conservation, enhancement and continuity of a culture.

  • The aim of this work is to consolidate the research in progress during the Master's Degree Program of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro in the field of Heritage, Culture and Society (PPGPACS/UFRRJ). The Heritage Education, object of this work, was considered as a deschooling action, and the Madonnaro as a practice of the heritage’s appropriation. Since few studies are devoted to Heritage Education, this research intends to investigate the scope of this transversal field (IPHAN, 2005) in the school environment. Thus, where does the Heritage Education stand in the school education program? In an attempt to answer this question, we proposed to analyse the conceptual aspect of the Heritage Education; to record the treatment of this subject within the school; to explore Art as a strategic reference; and to present the results achieved in the classroom as a form of cultural heritage appropriation. The methodologies used to fulfil these objectives were participant observation, workshops, interviews and the consultation of references and information sources. These are some of the main references: Choay (1999); Fonseca (2005); Barbosa (1995); De Troyer (2005); Franz (2001); Freire (1996) Horta et al. (1999); Lopes (1991); Naalin (1982 and 2000); Najjar (2010); Oliveira (2011); Portelli (1997); Saviani (1999); Scifoni (2015), among others. We are not taking into account documents of the IPHAN (The National Historic and Artistic Heritage Institute of Brazil) and those from official institutions such as PCN and LBD. To date, the research suggests that in order to use the heritage in all its extent, it is necessary to make concessions, to have a conversation and to establish a relationship of reciprocity with the school, and vice-versa. Deschooling can be pursued in two complementary ways: cultural heritage cannot be schooled under a discipline and the school must deschool its own practices. School education can be enriched with the transversal characteristic of the Heritage Education, which should earn its place as a discipline of the school curriculum.

  • The objective of this work is to understand the process of conservation of the documents related to the process of construction of the architectural heritage and landscape Seropédica campus of UFRRJ, and the digitization and availability of documents for the public. It discusses the importance of preserving documentation for the preservation of memory, history and information; just as it is important for studies, research and management of cultural heritage. It starts from an understanding of how national and international laws and regulations deal with document management. Then, it is part of a description and analysis of how reference institutions in the city of Rio de Janeiro, which hold the documentary heritage, manage their documentary heritage with a focus on the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in the digitalization of documents . Finally, we intend to contribute, through a theoretical framework, to the planning of the preservation of documentation in order to guarantee the preservation of UFRRJ's real estate.
