RESUMO:

In this work was evaluated weed interference periods and the competitive ability of red rice cultivar ENA - AR1601. Two experiments were carried out in the experimental area from Department of Plant Science at Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro, located in Seropédica-RJ, in the agricultural year 2017/2018. The first experiment was carried out in a greenhouse using four plants from the following cultivars: ENA-AR 1601 (red rice) and BRS Esmeralda (white rice).  Both cultivars were cultivated in a substitutive serial by varying their proportions (BRS Esmeralda -100:0; 75:25; 50:50; 25:75; 0:100% - ENA: BRS), in 11 L-pots containing a mixture composed of sand, clay and tanned manure (2:1:1). The experiment was carried out in a fully randomized design with four replications. At 40, 80 and 120 days after emergence (DAE) of the rice, plant height and number of tillers were evaluated. At the end of the plant cycle the following parameters were evaluated: number of days to maturity, number of panicles per plant, panicle size, total number of spikelets, percentage of full spikelets, grain dry mass and shoot dry mass. Data from these parameters were used to calculate the relative productivity (RP), total relative productivity (TRP), relative productivity difference (RPD), relative competitiveness (RC), clustering coefficient (K) and aggressiveness (A), between the two cultivars. The cultivar ENA-AR 1601 showed higher competitive ability in the following variables: number of tillers, number of panicles per plant, number of grains per plant, grain dry mass and shoot dry mass, in relation to white rice. In the second experiment, weed interference periods were determined on the cultivar ENA-AR 1601. For this, the experiment was conducted under field conditions in a double factorial scheme, where the factor “A” were growing periods of living or control spaced every 10 DAE (0-10, 0-20, 0-30, 0-40, 0-50, 0-60, 0-70, and 0-harvest) and the “B” factor was the row spacings 0.5 and 0,3 m in randomized block design with four replications. At the end of both, cohabitation period and the plant cycle for the control periods, the harvesting of weeds were proceeded by separating the species and counting its number to determine the density frequency. The number of days until flowering, number of days until harvest and upon of the end of plant cycle were determined the parameters: plant height, panicle size, number of plants m-2, number of panicles m-2, number of grains per panicle, number of spikelets per panicle, percentage of spikelets per panicle, weight of 1000 spikelets and productivity. The main weeds present in the experiment were Cyperus rotundus L., Digitaria sanguinalis, Aeschynomene denticulata, Ageratum conyzoides and Urochloa decumbens. The Period Prior to Interference (PPI) was 34 and 23 DAE respectively for 0.5 and 0.3 m spacing, the Total Period of Prevention of the Interference (TPFI) was the same for both tested spacing (59 DAE) and the Critical Period of Interference Prevention (CPIP) was 36 and 25 days for spacing 0.5 and 0.3 m, respectively. The living of rice with weeds promoted the suppression of the rice crop when the period was equal to or greater than 70 DAE, with reduction of 100% productivity.
