RESUMO:

The general objective proposed for this dissertation was to optimize the biomass production of shrub and tree legumes for use as raw materials in the manufacture of fermented compounds. The dissertation was structured in three stages. The first stage aimed to evaluate the agronomic performance of pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan) - GU and tefrósia (Tefrosia sinapou) - TF in monoculture or intercropped with corn in spatial arrangements under organic management. The experimental design adopted was randomized blocks with four replications. The treatments consisted of pigeon pea in monoculture; monoculture tefrósia; guandu intercropped with corn sown in the same furrow; tefrósia intercropped with maize sown in the same furrow; guandu intercropped with corn sown between the lines; tefrósia intercropped with maize sown between the lines; and corn in monoculture. The cultivation of legumes intercropped with corn did not affect the agronomic characteristics of this cereal. In turn, corn competed with these two legumes when the consortia were compared to the respective pigeon pea or tefrósia monocultures. The levels of N in the aerial part of pigeon pea and tefrósia were not influenced by the presence of intercropped corn regardless of the spatial arrangement of cultivation. However, the total accumulated amounts of N in the aerial part of the legumes were lower in the consortium, when compared to the respective monocultures. The second stage aimed to evaluate the N supply capacity of fermented compounds, made with combinations of vegetable raw materials containing pigeon pea, tefrósia or leucena leaves (Leucaena leucocephala) – LE. The treatments were arranged in a randomized block design, comprising mixtures that were formed by means of proportions established between wheat bran-FT and castor bran-FM or dry biomass of legumes: pigeon pea, tefrósia and leucena. All treatments, with the exception of 60% FT + 40% FM or leguminous meal, received 10% sugarcane bagasse-BC. Through a greenhouse test, using millet as an indicator plant, it was found that formulations composed of a mixture of 60% FT + 40% GU, TF, LE or FM and 30% FT + 60% GU, TF or LE + 10BC showed a higher capacity of supplying N. The third step aimed to evaluate the agronomic efficiency of the organic cultivation of the consortium of carrots and romaine, fertilized with the fermented compounds that presented better performance in the recovery of N, except of the compound formed by the mixture of 60% FT + 40% FM, which was replaced by castor meal, plus a control treatment without fertilization. The experimental design adopted was randomized blocks. Fermented compounds consisting of a mixture of 60% FT + 40% LE; and 30% FT + 60% GU or TF + 10% BC and castor bran provided higher carrot yields. The highest lettuce yields were achieved with fermented compounds consisting of 60% FT + 40% TF and castor bran. The results obtained indicate the potential for using fermented compounds at low cost and that can be prepared in the production units, contributing to the sustainability of agriculture.
