KEY WORDS:

SUBÁREA: Fitotecnia

SUMMARY:

The Atlantic Forest biome has been experiencing losses of its landscapes, becoming small forest fragments surrounded by pastures. One alternative for restoration is the planting of seedlings. However, areas designated for forest restoration, due to their history of livestock farming, harbor grasses with competitive potential for native species, especially those of the genus Urochloa spp., posing a challenge to the success of seedling planting. Chemical control of invasive species emerges as an effective and less costly tool, providing an environment with better growth conditions. Thus, the objective was to understand strategies for chemical control of Urochloa spp. and the responses of tree species to these methods, aiming to assist in decision-making for Atlantic Forest stands. The experiment was divided into 2 stages. The first stage, conducted in 18 dm³ pots, will be carried out in an experimental area belonging to the Institute of Agronomy, located at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro. In this stage, the selectivity of four Atlantic Forest species to isolated and mixed herbicides will be evaluated, applied "over the top," with treatments including: T1 - Indaziflam (0,15 L. ha-1); T2 - Haloxifope (0,34 L. ha-1); T3 - Mineral oil (0,0003 L. ha-1); T4 - Haloxifope (0,34 L. ha-1) + Mineral oil (0,0003 L. ha-1); T5 - Indaziflam (0,15 L. ha-1) + Mineral oil (0,0003 L. ha-11); T6 - Indaziflam (0,15 L. ha-1) + Haloxifope (0,34 L. ha-1) + Mineral oil (0,0003 L. ha-1); T7 - Indaziflam (0,15 L. ha-1) + Haloxifope (0,34 L. ha-1), plus a herbicide-free control. Treatments were arranged in a completely randomized design with four replications. Treatments will be applied 30 days after seedling transplanting. Phytotoxicity indices will be assessed at 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, and 90 days after herbicide application (DAA), and at 90 DAA, aerial part height and stem diameter will be evaluated to calculate height and diameter increments. At this time, plants will be collected, separated into aerial and root parts, leaves will be measured for leaf area using a LICOR-3600 benchtop area meter, then dried in an oven for measurement of dry mass of aerial and root parts, determining total dry mass. The second experiment will be conducted in a restoration area located in Cachoeiras de Macacu, Rio de Janeiro. The control of Urochloa spp. in Atlantic Forest stands through isolated or mixed herbicides will be evaluated, and the field selectivity of 20 forest species occurring in the Atlantic Forest biome will be verified. The experimental design will be randomized blocks, with four blocks and six treatments: T2: Indaziflam (0,15 L. ha-1) "Directed spray"; T3 - Indaziflam "Over the top" (0,15 L. ha-1); T4 - Indaziflam (0,15 L. ha-1) + Haloxifope (0,34 L. ha-1) + Mineral oil (0,0003 L. ha-1); T5 - Haloxifope (0,34 L. ha-1) + Mineral oil (0,0003 L L. ha-1); T6 - Glyphosate "Directed spray" (4.0 L. ha-1), and a control (T1). At 30, 60, 90, and 120 DAA of each treatment, weed control and phytotoxicity evaluations on forest species will be conducted. At 6, 12, and 18 months, aerial part height, stem diameter, and phytosociological inventory will be assessed. At 12 and 18 months, crown length will be evaluated to calculate crown area. Data on phytotoxicity of each species and treatment were tabulated, and mean values were calculated for each assessment period. Growth data and phytosociological parameters will be tested for normality using the Shapiro-Wilk test and assumptions will be checked. Subsequently, analysis of variance (ANOVA) will be conducted, and in case of significance by the F-test (p ≥ 0,05), Scott Knott's mean comparison test will be applied at a significance level of 5%.
