Influence of Wastewater and Alcohol on the Development of Sunflowers (Helianthus annuus L.) Grown in Pots.
Floriculture; ornamental plant; sustainability.
With the growing interest in diversifying the floriculture sector, the search for species with ornamental potential has intensified. Among the species available on the market, the Sunflower stands out, as this crop has agronomic characteristics that have attracted the attention of producers and consumers, including its short cycle, the presence of showy flowers with color variations and a wide range of adaptation to the Brazilian climate. Its use in containers has been increasing, but its vigorous vegetative growth is still a problem faced by producers, making the use of growth regulators frequent. Many countries have banned the use of these regulators due to their high toxicological potential, and therefore it is necessary to find more sustainable alternatives. At the same time, the demand in the agricultural sector for ecologically viable and economically accessible substrates and fertilizers is growing, especially those derived from waste from rural properties themselves. Based on this, the project in question aims to evaluate the response of sunflower seedlings sown in different substrates and fertilized with wastewater and the production of potted sunflower plants using alcohol with potential growth regulator. To this end, two experiments will be carried out in the horticulture sector of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro. The first will use three types of substrates (Biomix, Organossolo and Natus) and six doses of wastewater from dairy farming (0, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100%), diluted in distilled water and applied every five days. In the second experiment, the seeds will be sown in pots filled with the substrate that performed best in the previous experiment. Six different doses of ethanol and methanol (0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10% V/V) will be applied weekly to the rhizosphere of the plants. Experiment I will be conducted in a completely randomized design, in a 3x6 factorial arrangement (substrates x doses), with ten replicates and one plant per pot, and experiment II will also be in a completely randomized design and with a 2x6 factorial arrangement (alcohol x doses), with ten replicates and one plant per pot. At the end of each experiment, visual evaluations and evaluation of the following parameters will be made: root ball stability, vigor, plant height, plant formation, opening point, serious and minor defects, leaf area, number of leaves, stem diameter and chlorophyll content). The data obtained will be subjected to statistical analysis using the free software R (version 4.2.0) to identify significant differences between treatments. It is expected that fertigation with wastewater will contribute positively to seedling growth, favoring development without causing toxic effects and that the substrates will be capable of producing quality seedlings. Furthermore, it is projected that ethanol can act as an efficient growth regulator, promoting the reduction of excessive growth of sunflower plants without harming the plant's development.
