RESUMO:

In Brazil, the production chain of vegetable crops has great economic and social importance, with a total financial amount US$ 19.03 billion in 2016, corresponding to a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of US$ 5.35 billion. The majority of the production of vegetables is carried out by small and medium producers, and family farming plays a fundamental role. The vegetables represent 60% of the Brazilian market of organic products, which moves US$ 300 million per year. The Agroecological Integrated Production System, known as Agroecological Farm of km 47, is a researching, teaching and training unit that accumulates 25 years of experience on integrated organic vegetable and animal production, in agroecological bases, located in the municipality of Seropédica, RJ. In 2010, the Organic Vegetable Intensive Production Module - MPOIH (1.02 ha) was implemented at the SIPA with the objective of developing technologies for the organic production of vegetables, based on polyculture of several vegetable species and cultivars, intercropped or not, and in association to the use of green manures, with minimal dependence on external inputs and generate work and income for a family of four persons. This module will consist of the experimental area of the thesis research. In 2016, the Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil cited the difficulty of using biological control among the challenges faced by the vegetable chain. There is also a growing demand from organic producers for biological methods of pest control. Among the strategies of this method is the conservative biological control, which deals with the conservation of natural enemies through agroecosystem management practices, such as increasing plant diversity within the property and its surroundings. The predator insects commonly known as lady beetles (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) and green lacewings (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) are important agents for controlling pests of vegetables, but they have life stages that depend on the supply of floral resources, which are not always available in the agroecosystem. The biodiversity of agroecosystems can function as areas of refuge and source of food resources, such as pollen and nectar, for natural enemies when managed for that purpose. Thus, among the challenges of habitat management to increase diversity and abundance of predator insects are the choice of the botanical species to be used, the arrangement of these botanical species in the field and the knowledge about the dispersion of these natural enemies in the cropping area. In Brazil and in the world, the spatial distribution of insect pests in monocultures is already being described by mathematical models, as by the use of Geostatistics, but there is little literature in the understanding about the distribution of natural enemies in these systems, much less in diversified systems. In this context, the thesis research aims to evaluate the population dynamics of lady beetles and green lacewings, considering the diversity of agricultural crops managed within the MPOIH and evaluate if it is economically feasible to support a family of 4 persons. To do this, the following specific objectives were established: (1) to determine the population fluctuation of these predator insects in two consecutive crop years, (2) to characterize the spatial and temporal distribution of these insects within the MPOIH in this period using Geostatistics, (3) investigate possible sources of pollen for these predators in the MPOIH, identifying the pollen grains ingested by the adults of these insects with the use of Palynology, and (4) assessing the economic viability of MPOIH at the end of a crop year.
