SUMMARY:

The present work will involve six experimental activities conducted with the objective of evaluating the formulation, decomposition, and agronomic efficiency of fermented bran-based compounds (FBC) produced from baru bran and leaves of Cratylia argentea and inoculated with microorganisms associated with the litter layer of C. argentea. The experimental stages will be carried out under controlled incubation conditions, in a greenhouse, and in the field. The first incubation experiment will be conducted in the laboratory, using glass jars with a capacity of 0.3 dm³, for the preparation of FBC formulated from mixtures of energy sources (baru husk bran (BB) and wheat bran (WB)) combined with different proportions of C. argentea leaf bran (LB). The experimental design will be a randomized block design in a 6×4 factorial arrangement (BB+WB mixtures × LB proportions¹), with three replications. Inoculation will be performed with microorganisms collected from beneath the litter layer of C. argentea in the Seropédica city (RJ). The variables pH, electrical conductivity, and carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) contents will be determined immediately after compound preparation and after 21 days of incubation. The second incubation experiment will be conducted, using an FBC selected based on the results of the first assay. The experiment will be carried out in 0.3 dm³ jars under the same controlled conditions. Treatments will correspond to four inoculation sources: sterile water (control), molasses solution, a solution containing microorganisms collected under C. argentea in Seropédica (FC1), and a solution containing microorganisms collected under C. argentea in Sete Lagoas city (FC2). The design will be a randomized block design in a 4×8 factorial arrangement (inoculation sources × sampling times), with three replications. Samples will be collected at 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, and 21 days after the beginning of incubation. pH, electrical conductivity, total N, NO₃⁻-N, NH₄⁺-N, and the composition of the microbial community will be evaluated throughout the experimental period. The first greenhouse bioassay will aim to evaluate the apparent nitrogen recovery efficiency of the FBC studied in Incubation Experiment I. The study will be conducted in tubes containing samples of a Planossolo, using pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum) as an indicator plant. The design will be a randomized block design in a (6×4) factorial arrangement plus two additional treatments: a control (nutrient solution without N) and a treatment with urea as the N source. Each treatment will have four replications. The applied dose will be 250 mg of total N per dm³ of soil. Root volume, fresh and dry mass of roots and shoots, as well as N contents in both plant fractions will be evaluated. The second greenhouse bioassay will aim to study the decomposition dynamics and N release of the FBC selected in the previous bioassay. The experiment will be conducted in pots with a capacity of 2 dm³ containing Planossolo samples, also using pearl millet as the indicator plant. Fertilizers will be placed in decomposition bags made of polyester fabric (colorless organza, 9×12 cm), positioned horizontally at a depth of 5 cm in the soil. The design will be a randomized block design in a 6×6 factorial arrangement (fertilization sources - absence, castor bean meal, urea, FBC1, FBC2, and FBC3 × sampling times—5, 10, 15, 20, 30, and 40 days after germination), with three replications. In the plants, root and shoot volume and mass, leaf area, and total N content will be evaluated. In the fertilizers, fresh mass, dry mass and total C and N contents will be determined at the same sampling times. The first field experiment will be conducted in the experimental area of Embrapa Agrobiologia, with the objective of evaluating the agronomic performance of C. argentea subjected to different planting densities and pruning heights, aiming to identify ideal management conditions for biomass production and leaf utilization. Finally, the second field experiment will be carried out at the Fazendinha Agroecológica Km 47, with the objective of evaluating the agronomic efficiency of FBC formulated with baru husk bran and C. argentea leaves in the organic fertilization of a crop succession of beet (Beta vulgaris) and curly lettuce (Lactuca sativa). The study will be conducted under organic management, seeking to quantify crop responses in growth, productivity, and nitrogen accumulation in the plants.
