Ceraeochrysa cincta (Schneider, 1851) (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) is a predator with the potential to integrate sustainable management programs against Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith, 1797) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), one of the main agricultural pests in the Neotropical Region. This study evaluated the biological parameters of the immature and adult phases of C. cincta fed with S. frugiperda eggs, comparing them to those obtained with Ephestia kuehniella eggs (Zeller, 1879) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) as reference prey, under controlled laboratory conditions (25 ± 1°C, RH 70 ± 10%, photophase 12 h). The duration and viability of the immature stages were equivalent between treatments, except for the shorter duration of the second larval instar in larvae fed with E. kuehniella eggs. Both prey presented statistically equivalent elemental composition (C, N and crude protein). In adulthood, females from larvae fed with E. kuehniella eggs showed greater longevity and a longer oviposition period, although fecundity and daily oviposition rate did not differ between treatments. The viability of the progeny eggs was equivalent between the groups, but the incubation period was significantly shorter in females whose larvae consumed E. kuehniella eggs. These results validate the use of S. frugiperda as prey for the complete development of C. cincta, under controlled laboratory conditions, and confirm the potential of this predator as a biological control agent for S. frugiperda.
