Tolerance of diazotrophic bacteria to herbicides and influence on maize growth promotion
Zea mays; Plant Growth Promoting Bacteria; Productivity; Weeds.
The use of microorganisms that stimulate plant growth has been studied as one of the approaches to increase the productivity and sustainability of maize (Zea mays L.) cultivation. There are several factors that limit the productivity of corn crops, with weeds being one of the main ones, due to competition for resources such as light, water and nutrients. Therefore, the use of herbicides is a justified measure, especially when infestations cause significant losses in grain production. In this context, the aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of herbicides used in corn cultivation on strains of growth-promoting diazotrophic bacteria associated with the crop. To achieve this, three experiments will be carried out; in experiment I, eight strains of nitrogen-fixing bacteria will be used, arranged in a completely randomized design (DIC), in triplicate, conducted at the Laboratory of Genetics and Biochemistry of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA), Embrapa Agrobiology unit, with the objective of select bacterial strains in a culture medium containing herbicides commonly used in corn cultivation, so that they can then be used in experiments II and III and define their treatments. Experiment II will be in a completely randomized design, with four replications, conducted in a greenhouse, Department of Plant Science (experimental area of Weeds and Pesticides in the Environment - PDPA), Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro - UFRRJ in Seropédica, with the objective of evaluating the growth of maize inoculated with diazotrophic bacteria treated with herbicides. Experiment III will be in randomized block design (DBC), carried out in the field, Department of Plant Science (experimental area of Weeds and Pesticides in the Environment - PDPA), Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro - UFRRJ in Seropédica, with the objective of to evaluate the production of corn inoculated with diazotrophic bacteria in conjunction with the application of herbicides. All experimental data, except for experiment I (qualitative data), will be subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA), using the F test with a significance level of 5%. If there are significant differences, the means will be compared using the Scott-Knott test, also with a significance level of 5%. All these statistical analyzes will be conducted using the statistical program R, through the Rbio software. As a result, it is expected that the herbicides used will not have effects on bacterial strains and that inoculation can increase development and productivity in corn crops.
