SUMMARY:

Brazilian citrus farming is a world leader in production and exports, consolidating its leadership in the international market. However, it faces significant threats due to infestation by the citrus blackfly (Aleurocanthus woglumi), an insect of Asian origin capable of causing losses of up to 80% in fruit production, negatively impacting the citrus sector. Biological control is an essential strategy for the conservation of agroecosystems, being a sustainable alternative to chemical control. Among the biological control agents, entomopathogenic fungi and predatory insects stand out. The present study aims to evaluate the entomopathogenic efficiency of an isolate of Cladosporium sp. on nymphs of A. woglumi, comparing its virulence with Isaria fumosorosea, an entomopathogen already registered for the control of the pest in Brazil. In vitro assays will be conducted with three fungal inoculum concentrations, allowing the determination of the Mean Lethal Concentration (CL₅₀) and Mean Lethal Time (TL₅₀) of Cladosporium sp. on MNC. In addition, the predation potential of Ceraeochrysa cincta (Schneider) (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) on nymphs and eggs of A. woglumi will be evaluated, comparing its biological parameters with those obtained using eggs of Ephestia kuehniella (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), a prey commonly used for mass rearing of lacewings. To conduct the experiments, A. woglumi will be mass reared on grafted seedlings of ‘Tahiti’ acid lime (Citrus latifolia) under controlled conditions, ensuring a continuous supply of individuals for the bioassays. The experiments with entomopathogens will be conducted at CEPAO/PESAGRO-RIO, in partnership with the company Agribio Defensivos Alternativos, while the experiments with the predator C. cincta will be carried out at the Laboratory of Biological Control of Phytophagous Insects – LACOBIF. In the study with C. cincta, biological parameters such as survival rate, development time, pupal and reproductive viability will be evaluated. The data obtained will be subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's test at 5% probability, using the R software for statistical analysis. It is expected that Cladosporium sp. will show similar or higher efficiency than I. fumosorosea in the mortality of MNC and that C. cincta will demonstrate efficiency in the predation of eggs of this pest. The results of this study may contribute to increasing the portfolio of biological insecticides in Brazil and contribute to the sustainable management of this pest in Brazilian citrus farming.
