RESUMO:

Cauliflower is one of the most important crops among oleraceas in general. However, diseases such as clubroot can cause great damages in the production. Use of integrated disease management practices should be encouraged once it might result in the control of various diseases. In this way, the use of organic compounds has been reported as possible soil conditioners and disease suppressors. The aim of this work was: 1) to implement two processes ofpoultry manure composting, being the first one for a period of 15 and 30 days, and the second during 120 days. 2)to carry out experiments using fresh and composted material and evaluate effects on root development of plants, fresh and dry matter production and disease severity, among other attributes. 3)to carry out preliminary proper dosages tests of fresh and composted material (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 g.tube-1) proportional to dosages of 0, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 Mg ha-1 to be applied in cauliflower plants. It was verified,as results, that after the composting process, at the time of 30, 60, 90 and 120 days of composting there was a concentration of macronutrients, micronutrients and heavy metals in the materials compared to the fresh material, which may be related to degradation of organic matter by microorganisms, loss of compound mass, leaching, and volatilization. In the experiments using the composted and fresh material, we observed a tendency of the fresh material to provide an increase of mass in the plants compared to the other compounds, which might be related to the greater contribution of mineral N in the fresh material. However, it was observed that the application of composted materials also resulted in increases of plant mass, root mass and decrease of disease severity in relation to the control treatment (without any type of compound) inoculated with the pathogen. As for the experiment using fresh and composted material dosages, it was verified that the best dosages was 1 and 2 g.tube-1 for the fresh material, and 1, 2 and 3 g. tube-1 for the composted material. However, it has been observed that the application of fresh material is more restrictive compared to the composted, since those doses mentioned previously caused phytotoxicity in cauliflower plants. In conclusion, the composting process is an appropriate management to reuseresidues from agricultural activities, also to generate nutritional benefits to the plants, and contribute to the suppressivity of microorganisms that cause diseases, such as clubroot. This interaction between plant, microorganism and compound is still not well understood, requiring further studies on this subject
