SUMMARY:

Quality seedlings, with good aerial and root development, are essential for the success of a crop, however, commercial substrates for the production of organic seedlings generally do not provide essencial nutrientes for full growth. Therefore, the addition of nutrient sources compatible with the standards of organic legislation becomes necessary. Thus, the objective is to evaluate the phytotechnical performance of vegetable seedlings produced in commercial substrate complemented with fermented compounds of the bokashi type formulated from the addition of vegetable bran with a low carbon/nitrogen ratio. The experimental design adopted was randomized blocks, arranged in a 6 x 2 factorial scheme with 3 replications. The substrate used consisted of organic Carolina Soil® enriched with mineral sources of phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) at doses of 100 mg of P2O5 dm-3 of substrate and 100 mg of K2O dm-3 of substrate (S). To the substrate, increasing doses of the compounds were added, whose formulations received, respectively, castor bean meal (CFM) and leaf bran of the legume Leucaena leucocephala (CRL). Fermented Bokashi compounds were inoculated with an Embiotic® solution and prepared within 21 days. The enrichment levels corresponded to 0 (control), 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16% of the respective compounds, so that the substrate-compound sum reaches 100% of the formulation. For the preparation of the compounds, a mixture containing wheat bran (60%) and CFM or CRL (40%) was used. The vegetable species evaluated were lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) cultivate Vera (hardwood), beets (Beta vulgaris) cultivate Early Wonder Tall Top (root), and broccoli (Brassica oleracea) cultivate Piracicaba Precoce (brassicaceae), sown in polystyrene (PEE) trays with 200 cells in a greenhouse, on August 19, 2021. The determined variables consisted of pH value, electrical conductivity and volumetric density in the formulated substrates; In seedlings, at 28 days after sowing, the volume of roots, number of leaves, leaf area and production of fresh and dry mass of roots and shoots. The commercial substrate without enrichment did not confer commercial quality on organic seedlings produced from lettuce, beetroot and broccoli. Fertilization of the commercial substrate with the fermented composts conferred commercial quality standards on the seedlings. Fermented compounds formulated with wheat bran and castor bean bran gave superior results in relation to fermented compounds formulated with wheat bran and leucaine bran for the parameters height, number of leaves, leaf área, dry mass of aerial part and roots and volume of roots. The optimal doses for these variables could be determined in the seedlings that developed in the substrate fertilized with compost fermented with castor bean.
