The production of vegetables under organic management is characterized according to Law 10,831. The aforementioned legislation prohibits the use of fertilizers of synthetic origin, and with this there is a restriction on efficient sources of nitrogen, as the most commonly used ones have low agronomic efficiency and high cost. Therefore, one of the alternatives for intensifying your yields are strategies that allow efficiency and the creation of new fertilizers. In view of the present scenario, the relevance of this thesis is assumed in investigating the economic and environmental effect of a promising fertilizer based on gliricidia biomass. In summary, the general objective of the study is to evaluate the economic and environmental performance of the fertilizer, aiming for application in organic vegetable crops. As a result, the following questions were proposed for the doctoral qualification exam: a) Conduct a survey on the expansion of Organic Agriculture in the world and in Brazil in the last 20 years, involving aspects of economic, social and environmental importance ; and a survey of the evolution of research and the market for alternative fertilizers for use in Organic Agriculture, with emphasis on NPK, also in the last 20 years; b) Discuss the influence of environmental aspects, agricultural management, chemical characteristics and organic sources on the agronomic efficiency of organic fertilization in vegetable cultivation and c) present the concepts and indicators of fertilizer use efficiency, and discuss the perspectives and limitations of its use with organic fertilizers.
