Pantanal's Spodosols: Pedogenetic differences and antagonism betwen the others soils from this class

In Brazil, Spodosols classified according to the Brazilian Soil Classification System occur in very specific environments associated with acid vegetation and arenoquartzous sediments or rocks with high amounts of quartz in their composition, such as quartzite and sandstone. Specifically in the environment of Pantanal from Mato Grosso do Sul, the Spodosols have attributes that desagree from the central concept of Spodosols genesis, with emphasis on: alkaline pH, high base saturation, absence of aluminum exchangeable, sodium and solodic character. Besides that, the accumulation of organic material in the spodic horizons is much lower compared to those formed in other environments (Menezes et al., 2018).
One hypothesis related to the antagonism of the Pantanal’s Spodosols in relation to the other soils of the class is that in this environment the spodic horizons have formation related to specific pedogenetic process(es) not described in the literature associated with dispersion, translocation and accumulation of organic matter or the small accumulation of organic carbon from the spodic horizons is due to the dispersion of organic matter from the overlying horizons by the solonization process. In addition, another possibility is that the spodic horizons described are actually buried surface horizons due to fact that Pantanal is a sedimentation environment still in the process of formation.
In this sense, this thesis aims to elucidate the process(es) related of formation of Spodosols from Pantanal biome. In the qualification will be presented aspects such as the characterization of the study environment, discussion of the methodologies of characterization of humic fractions of soil organic matter and questions regarding the divergence of the Pantanal Spodosols from temperate soils and the main differences found in the studied soils in relation to those characterized in other Brazilian pedoenvironments by other authors.
