SUMMARY:

The soil-plant ecosystem is composed of a great biodiversity of microorganisms and for decades microorganisms associated with sugar cane and corn have been studied for their potential for FBN and for promoting plant growth. However, most studies were based on the isolation of target groups, using defined culture media, sampling a restricted population of total diversity, ignoring specific habitat conditions, the composition of communities and the microbial interactions responsible for these processes. Since the bacteria are in constant interaction, cohabiting in consortia in nature, a strategy used to mimic the natural microbiological environment is to cultivate a microorganism in the presence of another (CHAGAS, 2010). The use of a consortium of compatible microorganisms of different species (or strains) can intensify beneficial or synergistic additive results, since the lack of activities in an added microorganism can be verified by the action of the other (LOUCA et al., 2018). The addition of microbial consortia in plants, therefore, can restructure and stimulate the mechanisms for promoting plant growth under optimal conditions and under different types of biotic and abiotic stress (WOO et al., 2018). Thus, the biotechnological application of microorganisms, through the inoculation of a consortium of bacteria, presents a great potential for sustainable agriculture, since these innovative agronomic practices have the capacity to replace conventional agricultural practices. This new technology can be multifunctional, with effects that range from the promotion of plant growth, protection against pathogens and climatic adversities, stimulation of nutrient absorption and resistance to climate changes. For this, an approach is needed that describes quantitatively and qualitatively the interaction between the bacteria involved in these processes and a key tool to achieve these results is the use of independent cultivation techniques such as PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction or Polymerase Chain Reaction) ), qPCR (real-time PCR) and the use of reporter genes to visualize inoculated strains through fluorescence labeling, for monitoring and evaluating the establishment of inoculated bacteria in the plant. Therefore, based on scientific and market demands, this project aims to evaluate the efficiency of mixed inoculants based on diazotrophic bacteria, grown simultaneously, in the development of corn and sugar cane plants. The strains Paraburkholderia tropica and Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus, were selected for this study due to their proven efficiency in promoting growth in sugar cane. Thus, these strains were selected for the production of a mixed inoculant and for monitoring and evaluating its potential for plant development when compared to the inoculant of individual crops.
