SUMMARY:

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are among the most prescribed and marketed drugs in the world. Used in the treatment of acute and chronic pain resulting from an inflammatory process, they are widely recommended in the perioperative period (period ranging from when the surgeon decides to indicate surgery and informs the patient until he is discharged from hospital and returns to normal activities) for treatment mild to moderate pain in order to reduce opioid consumption. They have anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic action, by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins by blocking cyclooxygenase1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase2 (COX-2), enzymes responsible for transforming arachidonic acid into phlogistic prostaglandins, due to the action of phospholipase A2.

There are COX-2 selective and non-selective NSAID subgroups. However, cyclooxygenases express different actions, and the pharmacological properties of NSAIDs are mainly due to the inhibitory action on COX-2, while adverse reactions are resulting from the inhibition of COX-1.

In this context, this work aims at the desing and synthesis of new sulfonylanilides from the anthranilic nucleus. This research is attractive because there are few compounds with such characteristics, with a wide margin for novelties, and knowing the enzyme and its interaction site makes it possible to plan new compounds in order to increase the chances of success in obtaining active compounds.
