SUMMARY:

Although ancestral knowledge is recognized as an important component to constitute practices in urban agriculture, it remains invisible in the literature on the subject. Thus, based on the Coletiva de Mulheres e Agricultura Urbana da Região Metropolitana do Recife, the present research focuses on the racial and gender approach, with the aim of expanding the field of urban agriculture studies, considered still new and recent, by recognizing and valuing the ancestral knowledge played by black women, which have proven to be fundamental to enhance the transformation of spaces and practices in the urban environment, and have also enabled the (re)affirmation/resurgence of the cultural identity of black women urban farmers.
