SUMMARY:

 The proposed research seeks to examine the construction and characteristics of the hegemonic discourse of lithium mining for energy transition, in its dispute with new hegemonic discursive practices, as part of the narratives on sustainable development. For this, we will have as an example of analysis the proposal of sustainable mining in the Jequitinhonha Valley (MG) by the company Sigma Lithium SA. Our work will begin by presenting the current proposals for sustainable development, understanding how the energy transition and lithium mining are included, the contradictions they present, and the alternatives that challenge these proposals. Then, we will focus on the discursive strategy of the company Sigma Lithium SA and the perception of surrounding communities and actors. With this approach, we seek to contribute to the reflection on how the global renewable energy market - especially electric vehicles - and how decarbonisation policies have been reorganising the economies of the global South. In addition, to demonstrate a few alternatives to the ongoing transition and to contribute to the strengthening of energy justice movements.
