SUMMARY:

This thesis aims at analyzing the experience of black women from the Centro de Integração na Serra da Misericórdia (CEM) as an engine for building and managing solidarity in the Terra Prometida community, located in Complexo da Penha, Rio de Janeiro. It seeks to examine how the actions of agroecological women farmers have the capacity to promote justice, feminist, anti-racist and emancipatory food sovereignty in the construction of good living and the guarantee of real food in the favela. The first analyses of the fieldwork reveal a range of issues that affect the daily lives of these women, such as: the daily routine of planting and living in a drug-trafficking and militia area; food, water and environmental insecurity and lack of basic sanitation; victims of police operations and conflicts between drug trafficking and the state government of Rio de Janeiro. The conceptual and analytical framework is based on the Theory of Justice, in its intersections with normative theories of human rights, which try to deal with the racial and gender issue in order to examine the concrete reality in parallel from a black feminist, community and anti-racist perspective. The proposal is to prepare a thesis using the methodological contributions of ethnography, in order to manage an analysis that does not discard the relationships established between these different actors observed in the territory and how the actions of these women draw new social cartographies through food. It seeks to understand how they re-signify the space of the favela, giving visibility to the work of agriculture and food culture, the arts and the agro-ecological teaching of children. The first analyses have already brought important elements to light, highlighting the potential of the CEM experience in disputing the right to the city and to popular food supply. These preliminary results justify continuing the work. The openness on the part of the CEM women to receive the academic community made the fieldwork possible. This openness, by the way, is an element of analysis, since it is a strategy they use as a tool to publicize their work, provide human resources and funding for activities, as well as reducing violence in the territory.
