SUMMARY:

The present research aims to address the issue of industrial mining in the Brazilian Southeast region, particularly concentrated in the state of Minas Gerais. Through an understanding of the relationships that this type of process establishes between nature and society, this work seeks to comprehend the transformations caused by mining activity in the portion of the state covered by the Atlantic Forest biome. It especially examines how social resistances respond to the impacts arising from mining. In order to achieve this, a literature review is being conducted, focusing on the mobilization of the concept of neo-extractivism in Latin American critical literature. This reflection considers the role that natural resource and mineral extraction occupies in contemporary times, with a focus on the last two decades. However, it is essential to recognize the historical centrality of the coloniality of nature in the development model of the continent and in Brazil, as well as in the international division of labor within the global economy. Additionally, the ethnographic and participant observation method will enable the analysis of agroecological territorialities and traditional communities in the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais. By combining this with data analysis on socio-environmental conflicts and extractive commodity chains in the same region, we can hypothesize the existence of mineral extraction enclaves. In light of these elements, we aim to understand the contributing factors to conflict
