SUMMARY:

In this dissertation, I intend to analyse the affections and disaffection towards the land between indigenous and non-indigenous people who cohabit the territory of Aldeia Gameleira, located in the Serra da Ibiapaba (CE). The ethnography focuses on the relations and conceptions of labour in the vast expanses of sweet potato plantations belonging to illegal settlers, to which many have to submit to guarantee a family income and permanence in the territory. In addition to the Tapuya-Kariri's historicity and territoriality, I bring to the dissertation my personal and family involvement in the region as a basis for reflection. I turn to the Troncos-Velhos and my grandfathers as privileged interlocutors for a conversation about the Indigenous people of the East movements. The dissertation will be structured in three parts. In the first section, I will use the poem Morte Vida Severina/Death and Life of Severino to think about the mourning experienced by the Tapuya-Kariri, with the enchantment of Pajé Sebastião (TiSé) and the mourning experienced by me after the enchantment of my grandfather João. In the second section, I will use the book Torto Arado/Crooked Plow to reflect on the different perspectives of indigenous history in the Serra da Ibiapaba.
In it, I will consider, on the one hand, the narratives of Pajé TiSé (who lived his ethnicity alongside his people) and, on the other, the narratives of my grandfather João (who, despite keeping alive the customs and perspectives that I perceive in Aldeia Gameleira, had his ethnicity denied until the end of his life). The third and final section will be inspired by the book Beloved. In it, I will talk about the Tapuya-Kariri's prospects for the future, the vitality that comes from the Encantados, and the importance of children.
