SUMMARY:

This dissertation analyzes the construction of popular sovereignty and food sovereignty in Haiti based on the actions of peasants and community practices of social reproduction. The objective is to understand how these initiatives are historically articulated with forms of resistance to colonialism, external interventions, and imperialist policies that have affected Haitian agriculture. The research was developed through bibliographic review, and interviews with members of peasant movements in the country. The results indicate that solidarity, which has guided these practices since the colonial period, remains present in contemporary times and that, despite the current crisis marked by violence and the weakening of the state, peasant communities maintain practices based on agroecology, the valorization of ancestral knowledge, the centrality of women, and elements related to culture and cosmology. It is concluded that these experiences constitute concrete forms of popular sovereignty, capable of challenging externally imposed models and affirming alternatives built from territory, culture, and collective action.
