SUMMARY:

This thesis aims to analyze the elements that constitute the Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) model to demonstrate how CSAs put the principles of Food and Nutritional Sovereignty and Security (FNS) into practice in Rio de Janeiro, highlighting the model’s potential in Brazil for strengthening alternative food systems, as well as the challenges and contradictions that arise from its processes in the Brazilian context. The research aims to articulate theoretical and practical dimensions not addressed in studies on CSAs in Brazil, proposing an investigation that goes beyond merely describing the model’s functioning, listing its benefits, or drawing profiles, but seeks to understand the tensions, contradictions, and limitations of the model regarding the effective promotion of Food and Nutritional Sovereignty and Security. Using a qualitative approach and a critical communicative methodology, with semi-structured, non-directive interviews with participants of CSA Organicamente (RJ), this study analyzes the concrete mechanisms through which the community impacts the FNS of its members.
