RESUMO:

The concept of Localized Agrofood Systems, (SIAL), a new approache to rural development centred on the territory arose in France in the 1990s. This approach epxperienced important evolutions and spread to Latin America and Europe, with the aim of being, in addition a theoretical tool, an instrument for public policies. This dissertation provides a state of the arts map of the theoretical debates around  SIALs and an analysis of the institutionalities of their creation and expansion, especially in Latin America and Brasil.
