RESUMO:

It is the intention of this project to characterize and analyze from a Latin American Political Ecology perspective some of the socio-environmental conflicts that have occurred in the Cerros of the municipality of La Calera (Cundinamarca, Colombia). It is accepted that the territory known as the Cerros Orientales of Bogotá is a regional ecological corridor that is shared by many diverse social groups who inhabit this area either from Bogotá as well as from neighboring municipalities. One of these conflicts has to do with the disruptions at a local level, of the construction of the System of water provisions called Chingaza, of the San Rafael reservoir and of the present day project Parque San Rafael. Another conflict that is analyzed is the process of suburban development and the environmental, sociocultural and economic transformations that have derived from it. The third conflict consists of the strain that arises from the construction of the roadway infrastructure project called the Corredor Perimetral de Oriente of Cundinamarca, specifically the stretch between La Calera and Choachí. All these conflicts represent differentiated expressions of the relationships of power that are characteristic of the historic configuration of Bogotá and it’s nearest region in which we find underneath the surface, the colonization of nature.
