                                                                      ABSTRACT

 

This thesis project aims to develop a sociological analysis of the trajectories of researchers inserted in different institutional contexts who, in their areas of activity, seek to legitimize agroecology as science. The trajectories of scientists engaged in the construction of agroecology are here addressed as  entry points, in order to understand the dynamics of recognition and institutionalization of agroecology in the scientific field in Brazil. To this end, we rely on the contributions of the sociology of science and the sociology of knowledge, seeking to understand the distinct processes involved in the affirmation and legitimization of paradigms, the power games in action in the scientific field, as well as the relationships established between science and politics in the researchers' daily lives. We are interested in ascertaining the practices and strategies mobilized by these individual actors and the collectives to which they are articulated, in their interactions with the dominant ways of doing science. The Brazilian researchers studied in this work are different regarding their academic training, institutional linkages, areas of activity and generation to which they belong, but they have as a common element their engagement in the construction agroecology as a scientific approach capable of guiding the production of knowledge. Who are these agroecological researchers, how did they socialize and engage in the social dynamics and knowledge production networks related to agroecology, what they understand by “science of agroecology”? These are some of the guiding axes of these investigation. In methodological terms, this research is based on documentary research, participant observation and semi-structured interviews.
