SUMMARY:

The Grande Rio Unit of Centrais de Abastecimento do Estado do Rio de Janeiro S.A. – CEASA-RJ houses Pavilion 30, corresponding to 2000m² for the sale of products originating from family farming in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Under the administration of UNACOOP - Union of Associations and Cooperatives of Small Rural Producers of the State of Rio de Janeiro, pavilion 30 - also known as Pavilhão da Agricultura Familiar - is a commercial territory for family farming in the state of Rio de Janeiro, conquered by the union of associations and cooperatives of small rural producers. The trajectory of UNACOOP and the conformation of its role as a link between local associations and cooperatives and the main outlets for production - with emphasis on the institutional market - will be analyzed in order to locate this organization in the socioeconomic field in which it operates. In order to describe how Pavilhão 30 of CEASA-RJ is responsible for promoting access to the fruit and vegetable market for family farming in the state of Rio de Janeiro, we initially intend to locate this initiative in the economic field in which it operates, in view of the objective of investigating UNACOOP's social skills to implement market access strategies and their main socioeconomic consequences. We take as reference concepts of fields and social skills from new economic sociology and try to analyze the case under study through an approach that can be described as neoinstitutionalist (FLIGSTEIN & MACADAM, 2012; POWELL & BROMLEY, 2015). Our methodological option for the case study allows us to qualitatively analyze the institution and its context, since they mutually define each other, making it possible to properly understand the parts only by observing the whole (YIN, 1994).
