RESUMO:

This work sought to construct an interpretative thread capable of interconnecting the different configurations that the struggle for the land assumed in the region of the farm São José da Boa Morte and its surroundings. The focus of the analysis was the effort to understand the formation of a "stubborn resistance" among rural workers. To that end, we analyzed the material sources and the symbolic dimensions present in the 1961, 1963 and 1979 occupations at the Fazenda São José da Boa Morte, and also sought to expand the analysis for the Colonial Nucleus of Papucaia and its surroundings. Thus, the political organization of rural workers in previous moments and during the corporate-military dictatorship, begun in 1964, was the focus of this dissertation, which seeks to link local action to the broader political scenario and the multiple forms of State action and of business class, as well as conduct a reflection on the uses and meanings of memory in the struggle for land.
