SUMMARY:

MATOPIBA is a territorial delimitation created to serve the interests of Brazilian agribusiness and foreign investors. In this region, there is a growing process of foreignisation of land and deterritorialisation of traditional peoples and communities. Thus, my aim – in discussing foreignisation and analysing the extent to which this process has influenced the deterritorialisation of peoples and their experiences – is to understand the implications of the land foreignisation process for the agricultural knowledge of traditional peoples and communities in MATOPIBA. To this end, as well as carrying out a literature review, I will produce a map of the zones of tension between foreignised lands and traditional territories and I will go into the field in the municipality of Santa Filomena (PI) to investigate these conflicts.
