SUMMARY:

This ethnography examines the threats to shellfish gathering and artisanal fishing in Ilha Grande Bay posed by the seaside plantation. These threats include mass tourism, luxury tourism, industrial fishing, property speculation, and selective conservationism. In dialogue with the women shellfish gatherers of Saco do Céu, it seeks to contribute to a counterplanation narrative and in favour of the caiçara families and their quilombo life.
