RESUMO:

The object of this research is the brazillian colonization politicy, understood as a state intervention mecanism geared towards conflict management, the control of land and populations and as a partial treatment of the agrarian question, being a way to avoid the realization of a broad land reform. In order to get closer to this object I take as a case the formulation and realization of the "Projeto Integrado de Colonização de Papucaia" (Papucaia Integrated Colonization Project), carried out in the municipality of Cachoeiras de Macacu in the early years of the military dictatorship. In this way, I intend to bring to light the experience of rural workers marked by eviction, forced displacement, violence, resistance and the construction of group identity, observing the continuity of a colonization logic in the most recent ways of treatment of the agrarian question.
