RESUMO:

The northern region of the state of Minas Gerais, has been the stage of the phenomenon
known as (un) invisibilization of traditional peoples and communities, this movement is based
on the legislation of the 1988 federal constitution, and more recently, decrees that guarantee
cultural rights, identities and territories of communities that recognize themselves as
traditional. Within a mosaic of peoples that emerge seeking to recover their territories and
maintain their ways of life, traditional breeding communities claim their territories located
under the Serra Geral, questioning the logic of occupation and the development model
brought by the industrial complexes of eucalyptus, who settled in the region at the end of the
1970s. In this context, the present work is the result of a case study carried out in a traditional
farming community that has its territory and territoriality reconfigured, and with the help of
the theoretical lens of political ecology, we will fit the process experienced by the community
(local / regional), within the context of western imperialism and the globalization of the
economy (national / international), analyzing this development project, as a “moderate-
colonial” project. We will thus describe the reconfigurations of the land network with the
installation of the territorial projects of the eucalyptus monocultures, overlapping the
traditional territorial project woven by the gerizeiros, and, more recently, a new
reconfiguration in the land network with the creation of a Sustainable Development Reserve
on the territory of Catanduva. Thus, we highlight the importance of mobilizing communities
around access to traditional territories as essential for the maintenance of nature present in the
Serra Geral and in the cerrado areas, reaffirming the importance of the concept of socio-
biodiversity, which translates human interference in nature as essential for the production and
reproduction of biodiversity.
