ABSTRACT
This research project aims to understand and analyze how the strike (1984) of the campistas cane cutters is constructed and represented in the pages of the newspaper O FLUMINENSE. The movement is inserted in the context of democratization and reorganization of social movements and stands out for its implementation outside the Strike Law, unlike other times, where the action of the Sindicato dos Trabalhadores Rurais de Campos (STRC) prioritized the legal sphere. The conditions of exploitation and domination, intensified after the project to develop the sugarcane agroindustry in the 60s and 70s, as well as the disenchantment with labor processes and their arbitrary decisions, engender the process of picketing and strikes throughout the decade, being 1984 the starting point. We reflect on how the strike is explained and ended; what are the mechanisms and utilities for stopping activities; which claims made up as guidelines; which demands were met and which were excluded from the judgment; as well as the position of workers and mill owners in relation to the process, using the newspaper O FLUMINENSE as a research source. For a better understanding of the way workers are characterized, we compared the reports to other sources, looking for the hidden elements highlighted in the stories.
