SUMMARY:

The general objective of the research was to analyze the trajectory of the agroecological movement in Zona da Mata Mineira, considering its relations with the process of construction and implementation of public policies to support agroecology. The main instruments used to carry out the research were the bibliographic and documental review on the themes, in addition to conducting interviews with key actors. The two main theoretical axes of the research are found in the field of Political Sociology, especially in the literature on new social movements and in the field of approaches to Agroecology. In analyzing the trajectory of the agroecological movement in Zona da Mata, we can consider different views on agroecology, its relationship with faith and religious tradition, its scientific approach, in addition to the perspective of health and nature care, views that they connect and motivate the set of actors that make up this social movement, which acts both as a promoter and object of the institutionalization of public policies to support agroecology. The creation of the State Policy for Agroecology and Organic Production of Minas Gerais (PEAPO/MG), although it made little progress in terms of implementation, was an important element in the process of institutionalizing public policies to support agroecology in the state of Minas Gerais, favoring the conditions for the creation of the Agroecological and Organic Production Pole in the Zona da Mata region. It can be seen that the debate around organic production and certification has contributed to dynamizing the movement's activities in the region and even rescuing the importance of regional articulation to support commercialization. Despite the importance of coffee cultivation in the region, based on discussions on gender and agroecology, which sought to increase women's participation in the movement, it is possible to perceive an appreciation of food production carried out by women in backyards. This activity generates income, even if indirectly, as agroecological notebooks have shown, and is therefore fundamental for the maintenance of families and for advancing the process of agroecological transition. Finally, the strengthening of networking, combined with parliamentary support, has been fundamental for the resilience of the movement not only in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, but in the broader scenario of dismantling public policies for family farming and agroecology.
