SUMMARY:

This work proposes rurality and peasant communities as a setting to expand the dialogues of
disability studies. The objective of the research is to understand the identities, navigations,
stories, subjectivities and performative elements in the incarnation and navigation of disability
in a rural community in Colombia (Trujillo valley). For this, the meanings and uses of
rurality/nature, the symbols, objects, houses, organization of spaces and sociability that make
up the performative action of bodies with disabilities in rural landscapes will be analyzed. In
this sense, autoethnography and performative ethnography are methodological resources. At
the same time, performance as a transdisciplinary research method allows us to examine
narrated and written experiences to be represented. The “photographic self-portrait” and the
“anatomical illustration” are the techniques chosen in this study, for the “performance” of
disability from rural areas.
