THIS IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL THING”: THE AGROECOLOGICAL NETWORK OF WOMEN FARMERS (RAMA) AND THE CONSTRUCTION OF TERRITORIES IN BARRA DO TURVO, VALE DO RIBEIRA, SP.

This research aimed to understand the logic of territorial construction and relationship with nature present in two types of organizations and networks that are found in the Barra do Turvo region, in Vale do Ribeira, São Paulo: the Agroecological Network of Women Farmers of Barra do Turvo (RAMA) and environmental agencies from the State of São Paulo that work together with a third sector organization, the Green Initiative. To do this, it was based on participant observation of RAMA's collective spaces, interviews with RAMA farmers and environmental policy agents in the region and documentary research. It was found that there are different logics - ecological, economic and social - at play in the construction of territories in this location. However, these logics sometimes overlap and influence each other. This argument is demonstrated mainly through the analysis of the participation of a RAMA sector in Green Economy projects in the region. It was also observed that RAMA has its own form of territorial construction based on the construction of the Common that is fundamentally based on agroecological activities, which has, to some extent, transformed the social gender relations in which they are inserted.
