SUMMARY:

Comprehending imperialism is fundamental to assay the living conditions of the
Brazilian working class, because in Latin America, imperialism has shaped the basis of
dependent capitalism, marked by unequal exchange, transference of value and
overexploitation of work. In addition, the Latin American capitalist mode of production, in its
constant process of expansion, reinforces the centrality of the occupation of territories, which
promotes a dispute over land in Brazil. The quilombola struggle had several achievements in
the last decades, however, none of them has a structural rupture character with the real causes
of the problems faced by the communities. Even with the ownership of the territories, the
rural quilombola population can live in precarious conditions, especially when there is no
possibility of forming a subsistence economy. The objective of this research is to understand
how imperialism, based on the local dynamics of dependence, determines the existence
conditions of the quilombola peasantry. For this, a bibliographical research will be carried out
with the view to seek realizing a rescue about the debate of imperialism and the formation of
dependent capitalism, developing on about the agrarian and quilombola question in Brazil
and, at last, synthesize both the debates with the objective of understanding what is the
articulation between imperialism and the rural quilombos. Finally, this research aims to
understand reality in order to transform it.
