RESUMO:

Led by the 2008 economic crisis, the current global quest for land has created a global land market that, in turn, has constituted social, territorial dynamics of expropriation and land, territory, resource appropriation. It also implies diverse juridical and normative frameworks, both legal and illegal, giving shape to actual corporative territories. Such question animates the development of significantly expanded neo-extractive matrices by emphasizing a model of accumulation with significant implications to land ownership and resources control. As a result, a set of dynamics like those abovementioned has taken place in many regions around the world. The Brazilian MATOPIBA region is an example, which is going to be the focus of this study. The central point of this discussion is that such a process intensifies amidst a worrying context of territorial tensions where there is a systematic change in the land control and the access to water and territories that are strategically for natural and human resources. This process is known as "land rush," "global land rush," "land grabbing," amongst others, and is responsible for deepening a dynamic that in Brazil is regularly known as 'land-ownership foreignization.' Therefore, this work outlines the arrangement of the current spatial provision dynamics produced in Brazil since the 2008 economic crisis by investigating and reflecting on how the investments made since that time have reinvigorated the speculative process of land as a financial asset. The work gives attention to how this significant increase in the investments' volume and land transactions may be addressing transformations in land-ownership conditions. For that matter, the investigation analyzes which most recent land appropriation mechanisms are seen ever since. Thus bringing into question: have alterations in Brazil's land-ownership regimes (featured by the intense action of the State through legal, normative simplification mechanisms) been able to induce changes or unfinished transformation in the land-ownership's function considering its varied territorial scales?
