Overfishing is a problem that has been deepening in recent years and solutions to the expanding crisis have been developed in order to mitigate the problem. In view of this situation, this work aims to shed light on the problem through the experience of whaling during the 20th century to demonstrate that the root of the problem is due to whaling taking place under the aegis of capital premises, regardless of whether the hunt is carried out. by capitalist or socialist states. As a counterpoint, the work tries to demonstrate, under the theoretical basis of Marx's social metabolism, that the traditional hunting practiced by Yupik, with its bases outside the premises of capital, takes place in a sustainable way.
