SUMMARY:

In 2007, sixty peasant students, including activists from social movements, trade unionists, agrarian reform settlers and family farmers, constituted the first graduate class in Law within the scope of the National Policy on Education in Agrarian Reform (Pronera). This pioneering experience was followed by the creation of another five classes, all in public universities located in the North, South, Northeast and Midwest states of Brazil. Starting from the premise that the achievement of a bachelor's degree in Law is part of the grammar of the struggle for land, this thesis seeks to place them as part of a long trajectory of relationship of rural social and union movements with the collective actions undertaken by them in the legal field. The research aims to understand the intentions and efforts mobilized in the demand for the creation of these courses, which represents both an advance in the scope of action of Pronera and a new form of insertion of the rural population in the universities. In addition, it seeks to reflect on the meanings, strategies and expectations that guide the opportunity for the formation of peasant militants as bachelors in Law, placing the debate in the theoretical field of studies on social movements. Empirically, the work focuses on the classes Evandro Lins e Silva (2007-2012) and Fidel Castro (2016-2022), both instituted at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG). From the study of these concrete experiences, discussions about the contradictions and potentialities emerging from the encounter between formal university legal education and a project based on political and methodological assumptions of Rural Education emerge.
