RESUMO:
Brazil has become a reference point for studies in the application of biotechniques used in equine reproduction,
such as Embryo Transfer (TE) and Artificial Insemination (AI). The TE allowed the maximum exploitation of animals
that have high genetic value and this technique has been growing a lot. Usually rural and central embryo transfer
facilities provide differentiated management for donors and recipients, especially in relation to nutrition. This
causes the donors to initiate reproductive activities before the recipients and there is a smaller number of receptors
capable of receiving the embryo. Because of this, studies aiming at the use of mares that are outside the cyclical
period, as embryo recipients, during the phase where they already have donors cycling, become valuable. Ovarian
activity is also influenced by photoperiod, another limiting factor. Therefore, the use of acyclic receptors is an
effective alternative in equine reproduction, since it anticipates the breeding season and decreases the management
of recipient mares. Based on the above, the present study aims to study different hormonal protocols, composed
of estrogens and progestogens administered in different days, in cyclic and acyclic mares in order to mimic the
uterine hormonal environment of those mares that became pregnant by natural means and possibly establish a
gestation in these mares. A total of 42 mares will be used, from the Equine Reproduction Sector of the Animal
Reproduction and Evaluation Department (DRAA) and the Equine Sector Matrixes of the Federal Rural University of
Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ), which are classified as cyclic in the right- being confirmed by the identification of a corpus
luteum and acyclic mares, where there is no corpus luteum nor pre ovulatory follicles. The mares will be examined
by clinical examination (rectal palpation), ultrasound, with linear transducer 5.0 Megahertz (Mindray DP2200).
They will be divided into two groups (acyclic and cyclic) and subdivided into three groups (G1, G2 and G3),
where three different hormonal protocols will be instituted. In which, G1 will receive intramuscular administration
of estradiol cypionate in decreasing doses (10 mg and 5 mg) for two consecutive days and intramuscular
administration of 1500 mg of LA P4 on the fourth day after the initiation of the protocol, G2 will receive
intramuscular administration of cypionate estradiol in decreasing doses (10mg, 5mg and 2.5mg) for three
consecutive days and intramuscular administration of 1500mg of LA P4 on the fifth day after initiation of the
protocol and G3 will receive intramuscular administration of estradiol cypionate in decreasing doses
(10mg, 7.5mg , 5mg and 2.5mg) for four consecutive days and intramuscular administration of 1500mg
of LA P4 on the sixth day after the initiation of the protocol From the fourth to the seventh day after the
termination of the protocols, the recipients will be able to receive the embryo and will be reapplied P4.
After seven days the diagnosis of gestation will be made through ultrasonography. The data will be analyzed
using ANOVA, followed by Tukey's test of means comparison, using a significance of P <0.05.
