RESUMO:

The evaluation of canine auditory acuity is important for the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of otopatias, as well as the identification of certain drugs with ototoxic capacity. The present study aims to standardize and measure the acoustic threshold through auditory evoked potential (BAER) in Beagle dogs, since the stimulus and recording parameters are not consistent in any study. The study will be submitted to the Committee on Ethics in the Use of Animals of the Veterinary Institute of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (CEUA / IV-UFRRJ). For the test, the Viasys Healthcare equipment, Teca Synergy two-channel model will be used. Twenty animals belonging to the Laboratory of Experimental Chemotherapy in Veterinary Parasitology (LQEPV) of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro, chosen independently of sex, without previous treatment and healthy will be used. The animals will be placed in decubitus position and headphones will be placed that will stimulate the ear to be tested (WILSON, MILLS, 2005). The recording electrodes will be placed in the rostral region to the tragus of the ear to be tested (G1) and the reference electrode (G2) will be positioned at the apex of the skull (Cz) (Kay et al., 1984). The ground electrode will be placed in the dorsal cervical region (Eger and Lindsay, 1997). External headphones will be positioned over the ears of the animals. Rare "clicks" of 0.2ms duration, intensity of 85dB, presented at 13Hz frequency, with 40dB contralateral white noise masking were used. On each side, at least two series of 500 averages will be obtained. The waves generated by the device will be interpreted with audiologist consultation. Statistical analyzes will be performed with the Mann Whitney test (P <0.05).
