SUMMARY:

Toxoplasma gondii is a mandatory intracelular protozoan. It has carnivores as hosts,
among them, domestic dogs are intermediate hosts. Responsible for dermatological, ophthalmic
and neurological changes in dogs. The objective of this study is to associate the clinical,
laboratory findings and risk factors with the seropositivity of Toxoplasma gondii in dogs treated
at the veterinary clinic C.I.T. VET and at shelter AMA-UFRRJ. The analyzes will be carried
out from 200 dogs from different regions of the state of Rio de Janeiro. Each animal will have
an individual record where information about anamnesis and physical examination will be
stored. Blood samples will be collected from animals and the serological diagnosis will be made
using the MAT technique in the Laboratório de Biologia Estrutural of Instituto Oswaldo Cruz.
Hematological and biochemical analyzes will be performed at the Laboratório de Patologia
Clínica Veterinária at UFRRJ (LABVET/UFRRJ). A chi-square test will be used to compare
the number of positive animals and risk factors associated with T. gondii infection in domestic
dogs. This study is expected to identify seroprevalence and risk factors for toxoplasmosis in
this population. Thus, this study aims to contribute with new epidemiological and clinical data.
