BIG AREA: Ciências Agrárias
AREA: Medicina Veterinária
SUMMARY:

There are several causes of infertility in mares, and one of them is persistent endometritis, which can lead to different degrees of uterine fibrosis. Stem cells have great potential for tissue regeneration and cellular differentiation. The use of these cells for the treatment of chronic endometritis represents an important tool for restoring uterine viability and consequently increasing pregnancy rates. Ozone therapy has a potential bactericidal and fungicidal effect and is used to treat uterine infections. This research project aims to evaluate the efficiency of combining ozone therapy with mesenchymal stem cell therapy extracted from the adipose tissue of mares for the treatment of endometritis, with the goal of improving fertility rates. For this, a clinical examination of the reproductive tract, ultrasound, collection of endometrial material for culture and antibiogram, cytology, and uterine biopsy will be performed on mares of different breeds from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ) and stud farms in the Seropédica/RJ region during the 2024-2025 breeding season, to detect mares with infectious changes and uterine fibrosis. The animal groups will be divided into three: G1 control, intrauterine lavage with 1 liter of saline solution (NaCl 0.9%); G2 intrauterine lavage with 1 liter of ozonated Ringer's lactate solution for 2 (two) days; G3 intrauterine lavage with 1 liter of ozonated Ringer's lactate solution for 2 (two) days and on the third day perform an infusion with stem cell concentrate. In the subsequent cycle, uterine material will be collected again for further analysis.
