VARIABILITY OF CARDIAC FREQUENCY IN HOSPITALIZED HORSES TREATED WITH OCITOCIN
Oxytocin, Electrocardiogram, Heart Rate Variability
In the face of the growing discussion about the theme of "animal welfare", there is great concern among several sectors of society in claiming its effective implementation in the area of animal production. However, many of the discussions are based on speculations of a sentimental nature, without any scientific basis. The present project aims to evaluate the influence of oxytocin treatment on heart rate variability and its anxiolytic and anti-stress effects on the possible behavioral changes of animals in a hospital environment. Experimental analyzes will be performed on animals hospitalized at the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, divided into two groups (one group treated with instillation of oxytocin and one control group). The same animals will undergo electrocardiogram examination to evaluate oxytocin interference in heart rate variability.
