Brazil has a great territorial extension favorable to agricultural practices, but many of these areas are used improperly. The natural decrease of soil fertility and the disorderly livestock exploration are between the activities that promote the degradation of the soil and the pasture. Degraded pastures have a direct influence on the quantity and quality of water, since the rate of infiltration of rainwater in the soil without vegetation cover is very low, and also allows sediments to be carried to the founts, further erosive processes. Increased soil protection through vegetation recovery promotes improvements in the physical characteristics of the soil, and favors the increase of infiltration of rainwater, promoting greater recharge of the groundwater. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of liming associated or not to different doses of agricultural plaster on the surface, for the reform of degraded pastures in sloping grounds. The study was conducted in the dairy cattle sector of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro - UFRRJ, in Seropédica. The experimental design was a randomized complete block, with five treatments and four replications. The plots had an area of 25 m² (5 x 5 m), with 1.0 m of spacing, totaling 575 m2 of experimental area. Previous soil samples were collected to determine the need for liming and its recommendation was followed by the Liming and Fertilization Manual of the State of Rio de Janeiro. The treatments used were: surface liming with 50% of the total dose; liming with 50% total dose + 25% of surface agricultural plaster; liming with 50% of the limestone dose + 50% of the dose with agricultural plaster on the surface; control treatment, without limestone and agricultural plaster, and the control, without limestone, agricultural plaster and without pasture reform. Physical attributes of the soil were evaluated: soil density, particle density, total porosity, and chemical, in the layers of 0-5, 5-10, 10-20 and 20-40 cm of depth; dry mass of forage, and evaluation of soil and water losses at the end of the rainy season, with the aid of a rainfall simulator. The association between limestone and agricultural plaster reduced the aluminum content to a depth of 0-20, proving to be more effective than liming alone. The liming associated or not to the agricultural plaster promoted chemical changes in the soil for most of the attributes evaluated in depth of 0-10cm. Increasing the dose of agricultural plaster has reduced forage production but more time for forage exploration is necessary for more results. The treatments caused physical alterations in the soil only in the superficial layer, being necessary more time to cause changes in depth.
