SUMMARY:

This work aims to analyze the construction of the Historical Method in the work of the German historian Johann Gustav Droysen (1808-1884), founded from the hermeneutic interpretation and grounded in the theoretical reflections of the nineteenth century historicism, as a proposal that would allow history to constitute itself as autonomous science. Therefore, we seek throughout the thesis to contrast the philosophical understandings of history with the theoretical conceptions of history present in the methodological foundation droyseneana; we also seek to point to the use of Hermeneutics in the elaboration of the Historical Method ensuringto deal with historical material and build the basis for an empirical discussion in which heuristic questions, source criticism and ba interpretation are constitutive parts of this sophisticated process of historical analysis. In addition, it is a central part of our objectives to problematize the place of subjectivity and objectivity in Johann Droysen’s Theory of History, a way of pointing to the specificity of knowledge produced by historians that distinguishes it from other explanatory models. Throughout this work we seek to confront the Droysenean work with the formulations of his contemporaries, as well as insert it in a historiographical dialogue that traverses and advances beyond it, as a way to emphasize its seminal propositions, limits and issues latent in the current debate. Our main source is his text, Grundriss der Histórik (1857-1882), here analyzed from the methodological proscribes of Paul Ricoeur’s Historical Hermeneutics and Reinhart Koselleck’s Conceptual History. Following the very structure of the text, written and expanded over the years of course taught by the author and divided into Methodical, Systematic and Topical, We seek to highlight the main arguments present in each of these parts always having as a thread to lead the problem of the theoretical-metholodological foundation of history.
