The Real Theatro de São João and the politics on the scene in the imperial capital (Rio de Janeiro, 1813-1822)
Theater, Politics and Rio de Janeiro.
This research aims to investigate the participation of Real Theatro De São João in the political atmosphere of Rio de Janeiro society, between the years 1813 and 1824. As from 1808, the city of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro - the new seat of the Portuguese court - went through moments of intense social changes, political and urban issues, and the creation of the Real Theatro de S. João was part of this new context. Therefore, the theater became an important place for sociability for the elite, as well as an important space for political demonstrations. Through manipulated sources, we seek to reaffirm the relationship between culture and politics in the period.
