SUMMARY:
This research aims to analyze the writings of intellectuals Alceu Amoroso Lima (1892-1983)
and Gustavo Barroso (1888-1959) in order to understand how these conservative intellectuals,
influenced by Catholic thought, conceived or imagined the Brazilian nation and nationality
during the 1930s. Thus, the main objective of this research is to deepen the understanding of
the similarities and differences present in the writings that address the Brazilian nation and
nationality, seeking to identify the affinities and discrepancies among these intellectuals with distinct political trajectories, yet united by their affiliation with the conservative field. We
believe that, through this analysis, it will be possible to contribute to the construction of a
framework of the different ways of conceiving or imagining the nation in the context of
Brazilian Catholic conservative thought during the 1930s
